Bama wins the 'ship this year (and they look unbeatable right now), then I think you have to count them as Tier 1(a) and Clemson/OSU Tier 1(b). That would be six national championships in eleven years, and I think you would have to separate them to some degree from everyone else.

Almost everyone else feels that way already. Saban was contending for titles at Bama when he was helping to get Bowden fired at Clemson

Since 2008, they have played in the toughest conference and division in CFB . In that time they have 5 NCs, 6 conference championships, 2 x title game losses, and 3 x other seasons where their only loss (pre-bowl) kept them from a BCS or CFP NC game. 2010 and 2019 were really the only seasons multiple losses had taken them out of NC contention during the season.

That is Tier 1.

Calling Oklahoma elite after they’ve lost every playoff game they’ve been in feels like a crime

Calling LSU elite for making the playoffs in one year only to follow it up with their worst season in over 20 years feels like a crime.

This season is shite.... but in 20 years LSU has won 3 NC and played for another, won the SEC 5 times and played for another. Has finished in the final AP top 10 9 times.

Troll all you want. Only Bama has better numbers than that. Not Clemson not Ohio State.

Who know what happens from now on.... but LSU Has been as ELITE as you can be.

Just a quick Google research shows me Ohio St has finished top 10 in 14/20 seasons, won or shared 11 conference championships, and won 2 NC while playing for 2 others. So no, LSU hasn't been better than Ohio St. And I have no love for Ohio St. Thats just facts.

Won 2 played for 2 more. 15 AP top 10 finishes. 10 conference championships.

So you get 3-2 and lose everything else convincingly and have 14 seasons since 2000 with 3-5 losses vs 5 for Ohio State and none since the Fickell year in 2011.

What the frick are you smoking?

Agree. Alabama is the platinum standard in college football.

1.Alabama
2.Clemson

3.everybody else

Beating an elite team once doesn't make anyone Elite. If you lose to an "ELITE" 9 of the last 10 times played, you are not elite

Oregon ( they have been in the mix of it for sometime. Have dominated the PAC 12 for awhile it seems.

Oregon isn't elite by any stretch of the imagination.

I agree about OU. They benefit from a shite conference. But LSU is not in the same tier as Clemson. 2019 is the only year that LSU has finished in the top 10 of the CFP rankings. I don't think using the last 20 years counts as "nowadays". Despite being in the SECw, it's not like we've consistently rolled through it and only drop 1 to Bama.

Tier 1 is Bama and Clemson. The rest can be debated.

Yeah but you play pansies. What’s your bowl record vs The SEC? How did those finals vs SEC teams went?

Y’all go to the playoffs every year just to lose to Clemson. OSU is just like OU and has an advantage by playing in a weak conference

This looks about as close to what I would think, too. In the same order. It seems to fit the OPs definition of what elite is.

For me? I would probably say:

Alabama
Clemson
OSU
LSU
And cut it off there for my definition of elite.

LSU has more titles than TOSU, Clemson and Oklahoma in the era of legitimate titles which is BCS to present.

In fact the only school with more than LSU is Bama.

Elite teams don't have losing seasons during their run. Ever.

Elites programs don't finish sub 0.500, even in down years.

Depends on “Now-A-Days” means. 8 years? 2 recruiting cycles seems fair.

1. Alabama (Speaks for Itself)
2. Clemson (2 Natties, 4 Natty Appearances, most playoff games played)
3. Ohio State (1 Natty, 3 playoff appearances, perennial top 5 team)
4. LSU (1 Natty, 2 natty appearances, perennially top 10 team)

No one else qualifies as elite. LSU doesn’t qualify without 2019 dream team obviously.

UGA and Oklahoma are the next two up with perennial top 10 finishes and playoff appearances. If either one had won a Natty in the last few seasons I’d name them elite with the rest of the body to work they’ve had. But they haven’t, so they aren’t elite.

The final rankings from last season show which programs are truly elite:
- LSU
- Clemson
- Ohio State
- Georgia
- Oregon
- Florida
- Oklahoma
