Always love it when UGA loses in Atlanta.

Rooting against Texas and that is it.

The results will be skewed towards the wHorns because aggy posters are MIA for the foreseeable future.
Oh they're here.
But anyway, of course results will be against the Horns. Nobody wants the new guy to win it.

Likely.
If we’re going to do away with divisions and the committee is going to value W/L above all else, strong OOC games AND the CCG’s need to die. There are no positives in either as opposed to playing a cupcake or sitting at home, respectively.

The SECCG is now a meaningless exhibition.
Winner gets a 1st Rd bye in the CFP.
It is far from meaningless.
The loser, on the other hand, plays one extra game vs everyone else.

Winning a SEC title is now more difficult than winning a national title. Has been for a while. It will always mean something to win the SEC.
That said the refrain "not being punished" for losing the SECCG is bullshite now and has been in the past. UGA was without question, given the playoff committee past history, one of the best 4 teams in the nation last year until they lost to Alabama in the SECCG and wound up out of the playoffs. Texas or UGA one is going to lose the SECCG and, if the loser does get in the playoff, not a sure bet for either but nearly so, they will have played an extra game and will have the same row to hoe as any of the at large bids and most likely a lower seeding.
I am certain Tennessee would like to win a SEC title but their position in the CFP is better than either UGAs or Texas's at the moment. If UGA does not win the SEC UGAs position in the CFP is not going to be nearly as good as Tennessee's. The loser may not be "punished" in that they still get in BUT the cost of admission is subject to be much higher,....

Win and get the bye.

I'm coming to realize that out of the fans of the teams not in it, no one really cares about it anymore, other than how a certain result will help or hurt their playoff hopes.
It's all about the playoffs now. No one seems to care that much about Atlanta at this point.

The game may be meaningless to fans and it is very costly to the loser in almost any scenario but it will make ABC and the SEC a shite ton of money....I would bet with Texas the TV ratings will be close to what UGA/Bama draws, somewhere around 17 million viewers. By comparison the entire NCAA basketball tournament draws about 9 million viewers. 17 million people tuned in is a big damn deal...it ain't going away....

Wait until a team shows up and only plays their backups, to keep their starters rested and healthy for the playoffs.
It'll end really quickly after that.

Depends on who the new guy is.

At best the winner has to play 4 games....the SEC CG, The winner of the first round, the semi and the final. The loser will have played the CG, A first round, A semi and a final if they make it that far. Anyone not in their CCG but in the playoff will have to play 4 games as well. The loser of a CCG, if they still make the playoff, will have played 5 games against top 12 competition in what, 5-6 weeks? Another team who did not make their CCG will only play 4 of those. A bye is great BUT everyone who makes the CFP but not a CCG is on a bye this week.
Notre Dame, for example, is on a bye until 12/20 or 21st. Georgia and Texas are prepping for a knock down drag out fist fight this week. One of them will be on a bye until 12/31 or 1/1. Notre Dame, and anyone who is selected but did not make their CCG, will face less or an opponent in the first round than anyone in the CCGs will face in the CCG. Its the same number of days without a game for the winner as it is for an at large bid...one week less for the loser. The crap about not being punished for making the CCG is just that....it is a much more difficult road to go the CCG and lose than it is to not go at all. No way around it, it just is what it is.

It cost UGA one last season and very well could cost either UGA or Texas one this year. Unlikely but it could.
