I'd say the Dawg Wal....wait, that's originally Auburn's tradition
Using an NFL team logo on your helmet. Wait, that's not really "their" tradition since it's Green Bay's....
Yeah, I'd have to say barking is the dumbest tradition

If we're applying this logic, you could sail out of Nashville and reach Sochi, Russia.

Assuming A&M is just excluded because....well...nothing else compares to those 'traditions':
Little inbred 7 year old kids yelling "Tiger Bait Mother F'r" at every opposing fan is pretty cringeworthy.
Ole Miss frat kids in the Grove...pretending to be southern genteel. Then..well...WAOM happens.
Nothing about Mizzou is even memorable...so there's that.
That rooster on the loudspeaker though....wow.

All of the traditions are pretty dumb. We blow a horse bugle when I'm pretty sure a horse and Wildcat are two totally different animals. We should have been named the Thoroughbreds instead of generic Wildcats. You then could do some cool stuff that makes sense.
Vanderbilt anchoring down in a landlock state is a good call. Unless they're throwing a big anchor out in Percy Priest or The Cumberland River, it's dumb.
Rocky Top is a cool song but due to it's association with UT, I hate it and cringe when it is played.
SC- The roster crowing makes sense but also is hokey.
UGA barks a lot.
I kind of like the Gator chomp. It's unique.
In the west, aside from the little sissy men dressed up like milk men doing those gay poses, I can't makes sense of the little catch phrases. Rammer Jammer, Hotty Toddy, War Eagle, Woo Pig Sooie. Arkansas' makes sense seeing as they are hogs but still....
Auburn also does some shite where I'm pretty sure they just make up words. Boda Getta? What the hell is that nonsense? Cowbells need outlawed too.

AU has both the dumbest and the coolest. The toilet paper thing is the dumbest and the eagle flight is the coolest.

Anchors Aweigh is the US Navy fight song and makes sense. They are pulling up anchor and coming to kick some arse. Anchor Down doesn't make sense in that you are basically shutting the ship down from operations/battle.
I don't disagree with that to a point,, but it wasn't the argument. You're changing narratives or at least putting out a red herring, now, for him. First, it was dumb because it was landlocked with no real regard give for the riverine operations that took place for the Navy, especially in and around Tennessee
Also, in open water warfare boat on boat/fleet on fleet, yes, Anchoring obviously reduces maneuverability. When fighting inland on river systems that were much more treacherous than they are today and in that the primary use was being in support of land forces, Anchoring provided stability against the force of the river. Plus, the naval squadrons were mixed bag of capabilities inland.
quote:
Fighting is nothing to the evils of the river--getting on shore, running afoul of one another, losing anchors, etc.
-Admiral David Glasgow Farragut
In that context, Anchoring down so as not to give an inch to the enemy (or the river) is still a valid metaphor from at least a defensive stand point and potentially even with regard to OL not allowing penetration.
All that said, I do agree. It is a stupid saying and mascot, but not because TN was landlocked.
