South Carolina: See LSU, but ACC would be interesting if Clemson was like "nah."

Surprisingly Clemson wouldn't be the one to oppose most vehemently. It would be UNC and NC State. Those two are why we left the ACC to begin with. Tobacco road politics. Clemson was supposed to leave with us but backed out at the last minute and stayed.

I think it would be dumb too, just wondering what part you were at.

Every SEC program would suffer if Vanderbilt was out.

Each major conference needs at least one private school.

IMO one of these three
South Carolina (would join either ACC or Big 12)
Ole Miss (Big 12?)
MSU (Big 12)

I think South Carolina would join the ACC and do fine.

Ole Miss is tricky because they're a far bigger name than MSU. They bring controversy, but that could be a good thing.

MSU would probably get picked up by the Big 12 or something, but I'm not positive about it and I can't imagine any major conference would be in a bidding war over them. It's the opposite of a flashy school, without major money/history/ambassadors/projected success and with a pretty mediocre media market. It's not that great of a sell. Though honestly, Leach might be a major selling point.

As if "Aub. in the SEC East" discussion proves that as well?

BTW, what is the story behind SC leaving the ACC? I know people mostly mention GT from the SEC.

Everyone except Vanderbilt and and Mizzou would be readily accepted into the ACC. Not sure why the ACC would invite another private school; they have too many as is.

These schools, Georgia, Florida, SCAR, and Kentucky, would probably get less money in the ACC, but would get more football wins. Auburn would also do fine in the ACC and I'm sure the Big12 would love to have both TAMU and Mizzou back.

The answer has to be Vanderbilt.
I'd think Vanderbilt would be a good cultural fit into the ACC

Vandy vs UNC and Vandy vs Duke could be nice little basketball and baseball rivalries

I don't see them doing it due to distance/geography.

MSU would be better off than Ole Miss, though both of us would suffer. It really all comes down to Ole Miss’s controversial past and the current sad state sports journalism

MSU has a good enough AD to provide good competition in the lesser conferences without being a real threat to those conference’s top performers. I think the B12 would take MSU in a heartbeat.

Ole Miss is the same, but they are too controversial and have too many toxic individuals trying to pull their strings (we all do to some extent - but it’s far worse with Ole Miss).
A team leaving the SEC would be huge news, and journalists everywhere would be tripping over themselves to get in “hot takes”. Ole Miss’s past “traditions” would most certainly get brought up, and the fact that some powerful individuals associated with the school still moronically cling to said traditions would just make things much worse. I have 0 faith leadership at Ole Miss would handle that criticism tactfully. They would get hammered and any big conference would get scared off.

Nothing wrong with having a Mississippi school in the mix.
But for such a small state, two seems like too much—regardless of history.
Tho I can certainly understand how that opinion would rub some folks in the Magnolia State the wrong way.

Ole Miss is the bigger name for better or worse. State doesn't bring anything that Ole Miss doesn't. Except really good cheese

Once again first thing any conference will look at the TV market. Missouri will have no problem going elsewhere. TV market was not huge demand requirement. Just go ask Nebraska. They have no good TV market and went to the Big 10. That is why WVU is a bad fit for Big 12 since they are so far away and have no good TV market. That is why Some of the SEC schools fall in the same category with other schools that do not have good TV market.

Basically it boils down to this:

Both Carolina and Clemson were treated like the red-headed step children of the ACC. The ACC was first and foremost a basketball conference and UNC, Duke and to a lesser degree NC State were their darlings and they were going to protect them at any cost. When Carolina and Clemson started making some noise in the basketball world, the powers that be in the ACC didn't like it AT ALL bc it threatened their babies. It was highly political. Things got uglier than they already were and Carolina and Clemson decided to leave together. Instead what happened was clemson backed out at the last minute while we flipped all of them a bird, yelled frick you on our way out the door and we never looked back. Lots of bad blood left over from that time even to this day, particularly with UNC.

We would NEVER go back there.

The fact that we didn’t wave around confederate flags at games only 30 years ago and play a song associated with the confederacy is pretty significant.

You can stick your head in the sand all you want, but the truth is most of the country has forgotten about Ole Miss’s history, and they only know them as a party/football school. That’s really for the best.

Missouri Without the motivation of SEC competition they would fall into complete irrelevancy

LOL

Missouri could at the worst go back to Big12, where the texas recruiting continues as it was when they were there. Was going to bowl games and spanking SEC school in Cotton bowl.

And if there was an opening, the B1G would certainly take another school with 2 top30 tv markets, and another AAU school. They wanted them last time, but MU was not taking a jr invite, Nubs jumped at the chance to only get partial share for a few years.

Basketball would greatly improve if in either conference, they left Big12 as top 3 team(in big12) and conference tourney champs in bball and baseball.

Left big12 in 201, basketball won conference tourney and were #3 in nation to end the regular season.

ole miss, miss st would be fricked with no SEC.
