More games and a different style of offense in a different era. Impossible to compare. What tre did this season was impressive. You won't catch him getting more credit than bo and Herschel ever though.

Kevin Faulk in that offense would break all SEC records.

You can compare stats all you want, but you also have to look at the impressiveness of runs each player had. Yeah he may have had 5.whatever yards a carry, but you can't put together a highlight reel that stands toe to toe with some of the impressive runs Bo and Herschel made.

I'm not too familiar with Bo Jackson's highlight reel to name some specific plays, but you watch Herschel and you see him dominating players. I mean just running though perfect technique tackles, picking players up with his shoulder, refusing to go down. Then he could turn on the jets and outrun perfect angles.

Don't get me wrong, Mason had a hell of a year and is a solid RB, but he just doesn't draw the attention like Bo, Herschel, and even RunDMC did and to garner the award "Best Season by an SEC Running Back" you have to have the stats and a lot of highlight reel plays of just sheer domination.

Tre Mason is a good back. Is that the validation you seek? All time..... . Just stop

hat's fine and all, but Tre Mason averaged 5.8 YPC in 2011, 5.9 YPC in 2012 (LOL at the offense), and 5.7 YPC this year.

Show me Tre's YPC against SEC teams in 2012. I bet it is significantly less than 5.9. It has been shown that a large percentage of his yards came against non conference cupcakes last season and he got right at a 100 yards against Bama playing the walk ons at the end. Please tell me you don't think Tre would have ran for 1,800 yards in a pro style running attack this season. Tre is a very good back, and imo will have a good pro career, but he is not one of the top 5 or 6 backs to ever play in the SEC and his season does not compare to the best seasons for Bo or Walker.

His yards per carry and yards in general are all products of the offense he is in.

That can be said about any team and RB then. What a dumb statement.

It's top 5. I'd put it behind Herschel, Bo and McFadden

This sums this argument up perfectly. Tre Mason is a great back. Stats are not the best way to compare him to other great backs.

There is ONE thing, and one thing ONLY that keeps Tre Mason from being considered one of the best running backs to ever play football in the SEC. That, is elite top end speed. Mason is quick and shifty as hell, but won't run sub 4.5 in the forty. But I'd put his balance, shifty moves, strength, and vision up there with about any RB to ever suit up. The top end speed is a big one though, as that is what produces the big HR plays that Bo, DMac, Herschel, etc. produced.

1. Herschel Walker - 1891 yards, 4.9 YPC, 18 TDs
2. Darren McFadden - 1830 yards, 5.6 YPC, 16 TDs
3. Tre Mason - 1816 yards, 5.7 YPC, 23 TDs
4. Bo Jackson - 1786 yards, 6.4 YPC, 17 TDs
5. Herschel Walker - 1752 yards, 5.2 YPC, 16 TDs

DMac > Bo
