While I stand by the fact that Georgia, Auburn, and Florida can be ranked in any order at #4, #5, or #6 in the SEC.... the gap between those 6 and the next 3 (Arky, TAMU, OM) is very wide.

I also think its nearly impossible to say that Florida is definitively ahead of Auburn.

National Titles
Florida- 3 (1996, 2006, 2008)
Auburn- 2 (1957, 2010)

SEC Titles
Auburn- 8
Florida- 8

All-Time AP Poll Points Ranking
Auburn- #13 (38 Top 25 finishes)
Florida= #17 (31 Top 25 finishes)

Head-to-Head
Auburn leads series 42-38-2

All-Time Wins
Auburn- 746 (#13 nationally)
Florida- 710 (#22 nationally)

Like I said, it could go either way. Auburn basically has a slight lead in just about every category except that Florida has one extra National Title... which is a pretty big deal. Because of the extra title, I can totally see someone ranking Florida ahead. But I think any ranking of Florida, Georgia, and Auburn needs to come with an asterisk stating how close all 3 are to each other.

If I had to rank the three, I'd go Georgia, Auburn, Florida... but I am obviously biased. To me, the fact that every single accomplishment in Florida's football history occurred between 1991 and 2008 is an issue for their overall resume. It's hard to quantify because the achievements are there. However, I think programs that have maintained strong success decade after decade are a bit more impressive, IMO.

Yeah, which is why I broke it down in historic/current. Now program potential, that's a whole other ranking. I'd go:

1. UA
2. LSU
3. UGA
4. UF
5. A&M
6. AU
7. UT

But the common theme is UT is not the program now that history dictates.

2. Tennessee 3-6 Any combo of Florida, LSU, Georgia and Auburn. IMO you're splitting hairs trying to rank 3-6

This is the correct answer

Recent history puts LSU & AU just above UGA

Long term puts UGA slightly ahead

But 3 - 6 is essentially a wash

If Tennessee does not step it up in the next decade, they will fall behind all 3 of those

On pure potential, I think UGA and UF are even higher. I'm sure you're ranking based on LSU having a decent football state to itself (true, of course) but I think being top programs in top states, GA and FL being better states overall, and UGA and UF having much higher $$$ potential may give them the edge.

Here is a quick snapshot of the more important statistics:

4t. Tennessee- 2
6. Georgia- 1

All-Time SEC Titles:
1. Alabama- 26
2. Tennessee- 13
3. Georgia- 12
4. LSU- 11
5t. Auburn- 8
5t. Florida- 8

All-Time SEC Winning Percentage:
1. Alabama- 69.6%
2. Tennessee- 62.0%
3. Georgia- 60.3%
4. Florida- 58.8%
5. LSU- 58.4%
6. Auburn- 55.6%

All-Time "Big 6" Winning Percentage:
1. Alabama- 61.3%
2. Florida- 50.3%
3. Auburn- 48.6%
4. Tennessee- 46.4%
5. Georgia- 46.3%
6. LSU- 45.0%

2. Tennessee- 829
3. Georgia- 795
4. LSU- 778
5. Auburn- 749
6. Florida- 710

1. Alabama- 140
2. Florida- 114
3. Tennessee- 104

To be honest, 2-6 is sort of a crap shoot altogether. Tennessee's once large lead over Georgia, LSU, Auburn, and Florida is not very large at all anymore.

All 6 of the "Big 6" are without a doubt among the 16 best programs of all-time.

SEC: Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Florida

BIG 10: Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State

BIG 12: Oklahoma, Texas

ACC: Florida State, Miami

PAC: USC

Independent: Notre Dame

These 16 programs are without a doubt the 16 best of all-time. In fact, there is a pretty sizable gap between these 16 and the next group.

Next group is not so clear-cut. In no official order, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss from the SEC join Michigan State, UCLA, Washington, Clemson, Georgia Tech, et al in that next grouping.

9. Arkansas
10. Kentucky
11. South Carolina
12. Mississippi State
13. Vanderbilt

14. Missouri
15. Texas A&M

Tennessee could easily be separated at #2 but since their current 9 year hiatus of decency, they can be lumped in the interchangeable category of 2-6. Really no wrong order with 2-6.

Yes, I know GT hasn't been a member since 1964, but they have won a few SEC titles and had national championship caliber seasons in 1951 and 1952 despite not being the national champs.

BHMKyle.

You sir, are a georgia fan that is hard to hate. I will put aside my obvious hatred for all things georgia and say the following:

I cannot disagree with any of what you have written in the first two posts in the thread.

Auburn
Georgia
Florida

Flip a coin.

(Team 1/Team 2= One is not necessarily better than the other historically).

um, where the frick are Tulane & Suwanee?

Anyway - nice troll

but GA Tech would be a clear #7 over Ole Miss - it's not even close (Jackets have more SEC titles & either 4 or 5 natty's)

I would realistically put aTm at 8 behind GA Tech & over Ole Miss

Would put Mizzou at #11 right behind Ark

My list

1. Bama
2. Tenn
3. AU
3. GA
3. LSU - listed alphabetically - argument can be made to swap any for actual # 3 - put a gun to my head & I would say LSU, UGA, AU
6. UF - but catching up fast, too much history with less than stellar performance to jump the other 3
7. GA Tech
8. aTm
9. Ole Miss
10. Ark
11. Mizzou
12. Ky
13. Miss State
14. SC
15. Vandy
16. Tulane
17. Suwanee
