You do realize that for every win there is a loss on the other side ? Vandy is good in other sports but to have teams that are equal would be a disaster for the SEC conference. If the SEC records were 6-2,2-6 or 4-4 across the board there would be no national title in sight. You have to have 0-8 and 1-7 teams to have 8-0 and 7-1 records. That's what it will always be and replacing Vandy with a stronger team just gets us closer to parity...parity doesn't win national titles.

Ehh, historically yes, but they recently went almost two years (26 attempts) without winning a single game in the conference.

I'm like you though, I consider them to be a good basketball school in general.

I feel like SEC should put in some stipulation with the football TV money. Something like not getting as much if you don’t win three games.

They at least have one sport they're elite at which is better than some other schools in the conference can say

Vanderbilt is literal dog water and is TERRIBLE year in and year out. I honestly don't think that they could win the sun belt. The SEC needs to get rid of the nerds.

They're a founding member of the conference. plus every team needs a sure win on their schedule.

not recently.

They went 3-13 last year in the SEC, 3-15 the year prior, and 0-18 the year before that. They haven't been "competitive" in basketball in 5 years, but historically, yes they've generally been ok

I'll say this. it must really suck to be a Vandy football player knowing you are going to lose every game and get beat up every saturday.

No. Their academic standards, even for athletes, will always keep them from being a destination job even if their admin decided to actually care, and that's ok.

Why would you want to kick that city out of the SEC landscape
I really think Vandy could be a destination place for college football
If their baseball team can do it I don't see how their football program couldn't be a player with the right coach

I'm glad to have Vandy in the SEC, but the baseball program really doesn't serve as a model for football. Baseball's success is built on a scholarship advantage that Vandy has over every other SEC school--because they use their endowment to ensure that every Vandy student has affordable tuition, they essentially have a roster full of baseball players get substantial financial aid, where as most schools have to carve up 11.7 scholarships between 27 players. If the scholarship limit is ever raised to something like a reasonable number, Vandy's time as a baseball power will be over.

Vandy will never be kicked out of the SEC. However, one cannot rule out the possibility that Vandy will be left behind if the 40 biggest programs in the NCAA decide to form a new organization to govern athletics. If there is going to be more consolidation, that may very well happen at some point, at which time Vandy (and several other SEC schools) will be on the outside looking in.

Would Vandy be favored against LSU this year if they played? Asking for a friend…

Do you post about anything without interjecting LSU into the conversation? Give it a rest, bud

same answer every week when someone brings this up

we need them to keep our conference Financials private. Otherwise it's all public institutions and our conference business is subject to FOI

Vandy gets some big checks from the SEC every year. They aren't going anywhere.

When they get a decent football coach, they can't keep him. That is a problem for them. Franklin had them competitive.

True, but they are getting a $300k education for free and will likely be making well into 6 figures after graduation even if they never get a sniff of a combine invite. Hard for me to feel too sorry for them.

As for baseball it tends to have a lot more high talent kids with strong academics than football. If a kid knows they are unlikely to go MLB and has a choice between Vandy and Middle Tennessee that isn't much of a choice. Have a buddy of mine who has a very bright son that is not quite D1 Level but could easily get scholarships or PWO at a D1. He's going to Johns Hopkins to play ball, the baseball put him over the top on getting in.

Football just has a much smaller pool of really strong academic kids that are also great athletes.
