re: What's weird about your team allegiance?

My father attended Mercer and what is now Georgia State, but he never graduated. Neither had a football team back then. He adopted UGA, and we had season tickets going back to Wally Butts right up until, I kid you not, 1980.

We lived in Tulsa for a year when I was a boy and during the Billy Sims years. I passively followed OU and OSU never picking a side until a midlife crisis led me to enroll at OSU. Go Pokes!!

UGA and OSU were my grad schools. I have two undergraduate degrees from non-FBS schools. Football Saturdays are busy in my house.

TCU definitely isn’t as cool as it used to be, sadly

Vince Dooley is great and I appreciate him as a great UGA legend; but I ALMOST wish he’d have gone “home” to Auburn and that Erk had become the UGA coach (we’d have had a couple of natties in the late 89’s/ early 90’s IMO)

I’m the second to go to college in my family. I finished with a terminal degree from The University. My cousin was the first, graduating with a graduate degree from MSU.

I’m a third generation bulldog (grandad 1957, dad 1980 grad) but my yankee transplant grandmother is who really drove my Mississippi State fandom.

Grandmother was an orphan born to Irish catholic immigrants who passed when she was very young and she grew up around NYC during the 30’s, 40’s. Her and my grandad were big sports fans and went to a lot of yankee, ranger, giants games throughout the 50’s,60’s and even went to a lot of super bowls back in the day due to my grandads friend being the first head of NFL security.

I say that to give context that they were big sports fans and she actually knew the game well (football, baseball mostly) and when they moved down to Mississippi in the 70’s my grandmother began following MSU sports and later loved coach Ron Polk and those teams. She was also a big fan of Jackie Sherril because he was catholic and our hometown priest was the team chaplain during the 90’s.

Although my dad is a state grad he was so busy with traveling for work that we didn’t go to many games or even watch together but I watched games or listened to Jack Cristil with my grandmother all the time and I cherish those memories. I wish she would have been able to see the national title in 2021

I'm a fan of Arkansas despite decades of abuse and soul destroying losses. It doesn't get much weirder than that.

Both sisters graduated from UK as did I. My dad worked for UK. Yet I cheer for Louisville....but only when they play Duke in basketball.

Hell, I cheer for Tennessee under those circumstances too, against Louisville North Carolina and Duke

Otherwise a pox on all of their houses.
