For those saying fran instead of urban, in retrospect that was a terrible decision but at the time, it was a grand slam hire.

To be fair, the three coaches prior to McKeen had records of 20-10, 15-8, and 29-12. He got canned after going 4-4 in '48, which was our worst season since at least the 1930's.
And Darrell Royal resigned and took another job.
Allyn McKeen.

Dennis Franchione.
His initial hiring, I'm ok with.
No one could've predicted his shocking ineptitude.
But the contract extension he was given?
Arguably the worst move in Texas A&M AD history.

Urban would have never stayed anyway

Jack Crow set us back for years, but John L Smith was a terrible move.

Quinn Synder, Mike Anderson, Frank Haith.
I believed in the Mike Anderson hire but also knew he would not stay long. Those 3 have taking a very good basketball program and drove it into the dirt!!!

Well yea, but that's the whole point of this thread right? Looking back at what was the worst move for your program

Hiring Ken Cooper and Steve Sloan back to back. They both tore down everything Vaught had built Ole Miss into. If Billy Brewer hadn't fricked up and gotten himself fired, I think we'd have an SEC title or two.

In the Foley era, it has to be Muschamp. Foley is typically very good at his job, but hiring a defensive-minded HC for a program whose fans expect explosive offense is just a bad combination.

That is true so I wouldn't call it a bad move just an unfortunate one

Again, his initial hiring wasn't the turd; his extension was.
