For some reason, the answer is almost always the library. Libraries are generally ugly and don’t match the campus architecture.

One of my children went to UK. I was expecting a beautiful, historic campus. There ARE many beautiful areas at Kentucky. But the UK powers that be evidently went all in on the "Brutalist" architecture movement in the 1950's. It's not a bad thing, just not the most welcoming style. However, the landscaping at UK is great, artful, well maintained & does a nice job of softening the less attractive buildings and highlighting the best parts of the campus.

Back in the 1960's a tall building for your university was a "prestige" thing. Each school including the directional universities got one. But they weren't needed and are a safety hazard. Real estate wasn't scarce for UK. So now they have plush low rise dorms that will make the graduates first apartments look like slums.

Amen. It's on the chopping block. That place stank too.

Pretty sure that one (Gladson Ripley?) is going to be demolished and the cycle path is going to be extended through there.

I spent a lot of time in that Biology building. It seemed old even in the 1980's. Overall there aren't many buildings on Bama's campus I would want to see torn down. They've done a great job making the architecture pretty consistent across campus. Could use a new arena and Tutwiler has gotten a little long in the tooth.

Academic Building wise I can't think of one of the top of my head. The last 15 years there have been so many new buildings go up and a ton of old buildings have been or are about to be renovated.
I would have said Paty a few years ago, but they just renovated it. Tutweiler is about to come down. Coleman can go, but I do like the renderings of the proposed gutting and rebuild of it.

"LSU is located on more than 2,000 acres and is known for the 1,200 large oak trees, valued at over $50 million. The campus landscaping was called “a botanical joy” in its listing among the 20 best campuses in America in Thomas Gaines’s The Campus as a Work of Art.
LSU homes two Indian Mounds that were created by Native Americans more than 5,000 years ago and functioned as territorial markers or symbols of group identity. In 1999, the mounds were placed on the National Register of Historic Places."

Don’t know when last you visited UK but the campus has undergone vast changes since 2000. The school has adopted a plan to have most students live on campus so there has been lots of construction of new dorms. Old dorms have been demolished.
The plan is to max out at about 37,000 students with nearly 31,000 coming to the campus this fall. New classroom buildings and the greening of the campus are being emphasized as well.
New student union center.
New student housing.
New research building.
New hospital.

quote:of course there is a matter of taste but, yeah. lsu's campus is unbelievable. the 100 year old oaks along the parade grounds. crepe myrtles and azaleas in the quad. italian renaissance architecture. the buildings were inspired by stanford's campus which routinely lands on top campus lists. but you trade the oaks for palm trees. yes, lsu's campus is about as good as i've seen.
