Is it really that hard to imagine these players wanted to play for Saban and now that they can't, they're just doing what kids are going to do?

Saban was a once in a generation type coach.

The portal and the NIL has kids doing whatever they're gonna do to look out for #1. It sucks for us, but there was bound to be hella bleeding. Everyone knew what it meant when Saban retired.

We will have to rebuild a whole new thing. It would be more concerning if we were in year 3+ and shite kept looking this way.

Actually longer than that since he was the HC at Fresno State which is in CA, and the OC there in the past as well.

It's free agency, and kids don't want to miss the opportunity for a pay bump. That is the bottom line.

No, that's what quitters do, quit.

Y'all should try to sign players with more integrity. It's a shame what Alabama has become.

Alabama NIL collective was an equal pay system. The decent pay combined with Nick kept these guys there.

Without Nick, they are keeping the equal pay system.

Almost of all of these guys wanted to play for Nick.

DeBoer really had no chance to keep them, especially when they wont match NIL offers from other team.

Wow, thank you for proving that not all Bama fans are cordyceps-infected Gumptards.

I agree completely with your sentiment. While Saban was there, as long as the money was "good enough" the draw was that Saban would give them the extra oomph to get into the pros. Sans Nick, that no longer works and the kids are looking for bigger bags elsewhere.

I will disagree with one element of your statement, however: Whether or not any Bama fan will admit it, before NIL the REC bagmen provided Nick with a steady stream of bought-and-paid-for blue chip players.

Once NIL hit, that stream was reduced and blue-chippers had more choices for a payday. However, the prospect of good enough (but not top-dollar) NIL plus Saban was enough to keep the Tide relevant in the NIL era.

Now, though? From what you describe Bama is going to have to radically restructure their NIL game if they want to stay competitive, given that Deboer isn't providing the program with the same recruiting boost that Saban was.

Alabama was 90% Nick Saban.

It's interesting that everyone is blaming $$$ and not the fact that your players probably don't know any of your new coaches.

I can see why it’s better to go equal pay for team stability and unity. At this level having some players make way more than others can be detrimental to team chemistry no? Also isn’t each player’s performance in many ways dependent on each other?

In a perfect world, I'd agree with you. But CFB aint a perfect world.

Your scenario of rising tides (pun?) lifting all boats only works if the tide is consistently rising. With Saban going the AARP route, a lot of players don't have faith in the program alone being able to give them the boost they expected when they signed with Nick.

So, in the end, Bama will probably start having to hire mercenaries out of the portal like every other team. The gump fanbase demands excellence, and will settle for nothing less (reasonable fans here notwithstanding).

If Deboer proves he can be the same difference-maker in player careers that Saban (and Bear) were, then maybe the all-for-one-and-one-for-all NIL approach will work again.

But in the short term, it's probably going to cause a pretty steep drop-off in the performance most Bama fans expect.

Just my opinion....

One of my best friends is the cousin of one of Bama's high 4*, probable DL starter next year. He is closer in age to the kids father, but they are close.

His words to me from the father of the Bama player (who grew up loving Bama and in a Bama family), "the kids are keeping an open mind about their value to other schools. It's an opportunity to maximize value now."

The kids dad was shocked his son was even contemplating a transfer given his Bama love, but $$$ speaks and schools are contacting with packages. It's a free opportunity to transfer and cash in. It's tempting to all and has nothing to do with connection to the staff or school.

If they are contacting kids on the roster, that is tampering and I blame school officials for not setting the NCAA and /or the SEC on the schools doing it.

Well, that dilemma will not be addressed nor put back in the box.

Because other school officials will set the NCAA and/or SEC on Bama for tampering as well.

What kept all of those same schools from offering that same money back in December?

The GOATs WASTA.

Just relaying facts as I know them, even if anecdotal, since Saban's retirement.

Schools have always targeted other schools players in the free transfer/NIL era. But, there was respect for the GOAT. He leaves and the gloves are off.

I think Kirby Smart claimed the same thing last year but both Alabama and UGA players could still negotiate their own “NIL” deals.

Like Tiger stadium at half time, every single time? Your fans are half fakers. Y'all quit when it's convenient... hell, mid-game. You don't care.

We'll see how long your team stays put when BK gets fired or gets another job. I assume he'll get fired first.

You Bama fans are just too stupid to realize other teams have been gutted by the portal between coaches as well. Hell, y'all were constantly trolling LSU fans about it when Kelly was hired. How quickly small minds forget.

We'll see how long your fans stay in their seats once they get a whiff of the product DaBeer puts on the field.

This is it coming around to bite YOU in the arse now.
