What Would It Take For You to Stop Watching CFB?

I am nearly there

I'll never stop "watching". I still enjoy getting up for Saturdays, tailgating, testing the strength of my liver, loving the TAD.

I will stop caring about recruiting, who's who, being fully invested in these guys if they're just jumping in the portal the next year.

For it not to be shown on tv

I hunted a bunch of Saturdays starting Oct 1. Get updates while in the stand. Watch recording, or not, after the hunt.
First year I haven’t watched it live every Saturday.

I asked a similar question on Tiger Rant this morning.

For some, it’s the frustration of repurchasing your team every year and the constant turnover. For me it’s that AND the reduced state representation.

I don’t want Ole Miss’ running backs or O line. I don’t want Bama linebackers or D lineman. I don’t want Hawaii receivers.

Subject: College Football and State Pride | Recruiting

Curious to know what people think. As a fan, do you prioritize winning at all cost, or is your college football fandom tied to state representation?

Following our portal pick-ups and it feels strange. We’ve always supplemented with out of state talent. Now we’re depending on receivers from California, running backs from Florida, lineman from Georgia and Alabama, safeties from California.

For me, the fun of college football was always state pride and the banter with people from other areas. My state vs. your state.

DL like Booger McFarland, Marcus Spears, Chad Lavalais, Glenn Dorsey, Marquise Hill.

Corners like Tyrann Mathieu, Tre White, Randall Gay, Jonathan Zenon.

Safeties like Laron Landry & Craig Steltz.

Linebackers like Bradie James & Devin White.

Running backs - Kevin Faulk, Domanick Davis, Alley Broussard, Justin Vincent, LaBrandon Tofield.

Wide receivers like Josh Reed, Michael Clayton, Devery Henderson, Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Malik neighbors.

Offensive line like Andrew Whitworth…

I could go on. It’s the guys you watched play HS ball in your local town.

Saban taught the country that if LSU could lock down the base, LSU would be tough to beat.

Not that my opinion matters… they say that CFB is “up and to the right”, but I only watched two games this year and I used to never miss a game. I suspect that others are just hanging on while in parallel the sport is attracting a new type of fan.

I’ll watch again next year and if it’s an exciting season I’ll probably watch them all. I’d be lying if I said that it’s as enjoyable though.

As a Saints fan, I expect them to get the best players from across the country. College football was always more passionate because it was a true state product.

Anyway… I’d rather finish top 20 with La guys than win the title with guys from California.

It would take multiple losing seasons in a row for both my teams, to the point where I had no hope at all of ever having a meaningful season again.

Similar to how I feel about the NFL now with the Saints.

Altogether probably a lot. For it to significantly dip in how much I care about it……..too late

I used to watch as much football as I could get.

Now it's more of when I have nothing better to do.

I miss the days of players being associated with the school. Bo Jackson is Auburn. Derrick Thomas is Alabama. Tim Tebow is Florida. Tyrann Mathieu is LSU. Etc, etc.

We just don't have that anymore it seems. The last teams that could truly say that were 2020/2021.
