I've heard those names, but I didn't move to Birmingham until late 99 so I think they were long gone by then. Definitely heard people talk abut Cafe DeVille. Before I moved here, I only knew of the bars in 5 Points South.
Yea you're probably a little younger than me.
I get a chuckle out of those that say Birmingham is finally getting some bars and nightclubs when 30 years ago you could bar crawl from Bessemer to downtown up bessemer super highway.
Birmingham in the 80s probably had more strip clubs than current bars.

Go look up the FBI or ALEA crime statistics and you’ll see in happens far more frequently in some places than it does in others. Want to guess which end of the spectrum you’ll find Birmingham?
I don't think even the most ardent Bham defenders will deny that there is a crime problem in the city. The vast majority of it occurs in areas that people coming to the bowl game will only encounter if they take a wrong turn and get lost. Things do get dicey just a few blocks north of the stadium, but with interstate and Red Mt Expressway entry points right there, I can't see many people heading that direction.
And that's not to say nothing will happen around the stadium, or in the popular bar/restaurant districts. Vehicle break-ins happen all over the metro area, including the supposed safe suburbs.

My guess is most Bama Fans do not realize the reputation Birmingham has for great restaurants. Most never eat outside of the Olive Garden.
Is Olive Garden still making barners eat outside?
That's a shame....

The fish market in Southside, you’re welcome.

Are you old enough to remember when it was Hogan's hideaway downtown? Or remember Norms, JTRoberts or Cafe deVille?
Yes, I actually had a conversation this weekend about The Circuit.

I don’t think Norms ever closed. It was where we went when everything else closed.
Cafe de Ville was a dance club.
Good happy hour.
Ever go to penny beer night at that deli on south side? Trying to think of the name. It was off the beaten path.BRB with name.

Highlands is currently closed and won't reopen until 2022.

Can be a good place to low key go out and have a few drinks and get some decent food. Greek food here is surprisingly good for folks who come here and don't expect it.

There's THIS place. Maybe Harsin could head over and get some tips on how not to choke.

Birmingham, like just about every major city, has bad areas of town.
As long as you stay east of I65 and south of I20/59 you'll be fine.

Lol. Well I never got the appeal of overtime. I'm not driving to Lakeshore from Forest Park to eat mediocre food. When I lived on Lakeshore, sure, I visited frequently, but I'm not sure it commands a 15 minute drive.
Helen is a great new spot to eat at. Bamboo on 2nd is great as well. And then you have uptown around the stadium...

I lived on Cobb Lane in south side for 3 years. I was nearly robbed walking around five points late one night, but got lucky on that. Other than some irritating issues with homeless trying to live in the basement I had no issues.

I realize this is an unsubtle dig at AU’s pathetic bowl destination. It’s okay, we deserve the ridicule.
No, actually it was not intended as a dig. It was intended to maybe shine some much needed positive light on Birmingham, and I think that it was successful.

I just can't recommend any of the places currently in Uptown. Maybe the stadium will be a shot in the arm for it, but none of the places are worth going to, especially before or after a football game. There isn't even a good place to go have a few beers before an event, except Todd English which has some of the worst service in town.

Been meaning to go to that Texas de Brazil
It’s directly across the street from the stadium. You’ll need a reservation. I recommend to go lite on the sides and salad bar, except for the smoked salmon. That smoked salmon is some good shite. Don’t mess with the table fries and mashed potatoes. That’s just wasted space. When they come by with the meat skewers, skip on the chicken, it’s dry and not really good. Save room for the bacon wrapped filet and the prime rib.

I actually agree with you. Sadly the Top Golf might be the best of the bunch other than Mugshots, which I'm not a big fan of either. They are very convenient, however.

I’ve had a couple good meals at the southern kitchen next to Texas de brazil but yea not a ton of options although it seems they are trying

The Bama fanbase, of which I am a part. This would have been clear to you if you were literate as I included the post I was responding to right there in my post. But here it is again:
