Anyone who believes you have to be in the same state to have an intense rivalry just needs to spend some time in central Ohio and see how Ohio State fans feel about Michigan.
As far as the SEC, I'd say:
1. Iron Bowl
2a. Cocktail Party
2b. Third Saturday in October

Nick Saban came in and saved your arse, and Bama fans act like they've been on top of college football since the Bear was coach.
Right cause Bama didn't win the SEC in 99. And probation didn't hurt bama at all. And Franphony wasn't tearing up the SEC before bolting in the middle of the night. And Franphony didn't destroy LSU and Saban.

aving said that, it has at least three that are more compelling and more valuable than the Egg Bowl.

The Arkansas game is a fabricated rivalry that came to be when the SEC added SC and Arkansas. It was created so that Arkansas would have an SEC rival.
quote:They've played every year since 1971 and every year save three since 1953. Do your homework.
LSU and UF are not historical rivals. LSU is Florida's third rival. Again, a rivalry forged from the conference expansion in 1992.
quote:They've played every year since 1964 when Bear Bryant and one of his former assistants agreed to an annual game.
LSU and Bama is the saban bowl. There wasn't a rivalry before Saban and you are their third most hated rival.
And it's a WAY better rivalry than the Egg Bowl.
You're losing. Bad.
Ole Miss vs. Jacksonville State is a better rivalry than the Egg Bowl.

what was Bama's streak in Tiger Stadium before Saban??? That wasn't close to a rivalry before Saban came back and LSU was at a different level then they've ever been.

that's great, i don't give a shite about your pretend rivalries.
Say what you want about any LSU rivalry...it's still better than the Egg Bowl, about which no one gives half a shite.

the point of a rivalry is how much the fan bases and teams involved care, not the fat piece of shite on his couch 1000 miles away. that was easy.

Again, do your homework.
I'm 30, and the home team has won seven times in this rivalry since I've been alive.
The Egg Bowl is basically about as big as East Ascension and St. Amant.

quote:I'm not going to say that the Egg Bowl is meaningless, because it's not. However, you have to realize that it's ridiculous to say that LSU doesn't have any rivalries. Their rivalries may not have the tradition backing it, but there's certainly something to be said for the importance of games in the rivalries. LSU may not have old history with Bama, Florida, and Auburn, but it's not fair to just say they aren't rivals and close the discussion. Whether you see it on rivalry lists or if CBS does a special introduction for it, you can't just pretend there's no rivalry whatsoever. The players know they're playing rivals, the coaches know it, and the fans obviously recognize it.

At least both participating fanbases care. That's more than I could say for any of LSU's rivalries, save for the Bama "rivalry"

More people go to the games, more people watch the games on tv, more SEC titles are on the line, and more national championships are on the line.
So what exactly does the Egg Bowl have on any of LSU's rivalries (other than those with MSU & OM)?
