On the contrary, the East was arguably as strong as it's ever been, just not the teams you expected to be strong.
In 2013 SCAR finished #4 Mizzou finished #5, hell even Vandy finished in the top 25 at #24 in the NATION - not just in the EAST - not just in the SEC.
In fact, the East has never been that strong since. The East never again placed 2 teams in the top 5 final AP poll. Only GA alone in 2017, 2019, 2021 and of course 2022.

Do what?
The East finished with 3 of the top 9 teams in '12 and UGA was arguably the 2nd best team in the country and more than likely beats ND for the NC
And also had 2 teams finish in the top 5 in 13

I'm curious now.
Missouri looked to be a promising team going into their tenure in the SEC.
Perhaps it was the shift in recruiting style that led to their collapse? They were built for the Big 12 coming in and it translated well.

You can’t border on the big 6. You either win a title or you don’t. Vandy could do it and they’re in.

Pinkel was a good HC and their '13 team
was good and fast at the edges and a solid QB.Not sure if their faster players were from Texas or not.Their '14 team wasn't bad (UGA beat em 33-0) but lost to unranked SC and unranked UF
in November to lose the division...the beginning of the end for Richt

It’s really cut and dry on that statement.
The ones clamoring to be labeled big6 weren’t even big6 in the big12.
That has to sting.

No one borders on the big six. Realistically, you’re talking about which non-big six teams have had the most success. Those aren’t the same thing.

“Florida runs close behind”
Yes…very relevant. Who doesn’t remember the year iPhones were introduced. Exciting times!!!

"Big Six" status is based on conference championships. No team outside the Big Six has won the conference since expansion. If you're wanting to talk about which teams have been closest, you can go about it two ways: number of chances, or closest loss:
Number of chances:
3 - Arkansas
2 - Missouri
1 - Mississippi State, South Carolina
Closest loss by points:
10 - Arkansas, Mississippi State
17 - Missouri
39 - South Carolina
Given these figures, I'd have to say Arkansas is the closest.

First one to reply is the one hurt most by beiNG left out, no matter how HARD HE TRIES.
Rivalry with everyone denied.
Big6 status denied.
Gotta show your worth on the field, boy. Not the message board.

Even after all these decades Georgia Tech still has the second best resume after KY. Even Tulane has an arguably better resume than half the Little VIII.

Honestly it's really a big four at this point
Bammer
UGA
LSU
UF
Then the barn, who are a shell of their former self & the dumpster fire that is tenner.

Since the beginning of the BCS era and extending into the playoff era:
Alabama : 6
LSU : 3
Florida : 2
UGA : 1
Auburn : 1
Tennessee : 1
I always heard the "Big Six" used in reference to the number of teams that had won the SECG since it was reinstated.
