Ole Miss, for all their assumptions, has always been grounded by constantly getting their asses kicked ... and the cultural exchange offered during said beating. I think it's benefited Oxford.

I know plenty of farmers who are subject to drink, but not during work.

Don't know many farmers, do you? I guarantee there's more alcoholic shrimpers, just in Terrebonne Parish, than there are alcoholic farmers in all of Mississippi.

I worked in a rice field near Lambert one summer in HS and we would crack open our first beer at 10am.

Girl I fricked around with for a bit in college from Winona had a dad who built high-end swimming pools in Oxford. He'd head out at 5AM, work till dark, drink a liter or more of cheap vodka till around 10 or 11PM....and do it all again the next day.
Dude did an amazing job building pools and provided for his family so it was hard to complain about him being a functioning alcoholic.
That being said.....he died of liver failure a few years back.
