Since people in this thread say a decade is long enough, then Alabama was not an elite program prior to Saban's arrival and the only status of Alabama's program that can be considered elite is from 2009 to present.

lol.

It takes generations to pass for a program to no longer be elite. Minnesota is the textbook example.

When Alabama was down, they were still in great position to be great in the future.

Nebraska is not.

Since they have not won a national title since the 80's we should send them to the FCS since they are nothing program that can't win anything anymore.

Yep, you're 16. Sorry that Nebraska hasn't won anything since you've been alive.

[]For example, how long can a team claim to be an "elite program" if they fail to win anything significant since their last conference or national championship? [/]

What else is significant other than a conference or national championship? Only Ole Miss brags about "NY6" bowl appearances.

I think the term "elite" is all relative to context and point of view. For instance, Arkansas isn't elite by any stretch of the imagination to the upper echelon of NCAA football. But to players and fans of schools like Arkansas State, Univeristy of Central Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, etc that haven't had a blip of notoriety in their entire history - University of Arkansas is the elite institution/football program in the state. To the lower echelon players and coaches at those schools, the UofA is the biggest deal in town and where they aspire to be. So I think in that sense, every school in the SEC is "elite" because it's most likely the top notch institution in the surrounding area for NCAA football.

Can't we all just get along?

I love to throw out Minnesota and compared other programs to them, but really their "eliteness" was basically a decade.

To me in order to be really elite you need more than one mega coach or one mega decade. You need a few coaches who have won titles, and at least some claim to one of the best coaches of all time.

Just having a little fun with idiots that have a mythical time frame for when a program can no longer be elite.

Elite programs are those that have won multiple national titles, Heisman winners, a ton of conference championships, a ton of major bowl wins and the like.

Some dumb little 10 to 20 year time span doesn't drop a program from elite status. The history is still there to be added onto in the future.

And, if you're not an innately fertile school or program, you'll need to reassert your eliteness from time to time.

Nebraska is not, and likely will not. Hence, at best, they're considered an elite program on its way to Georgia Tech-ville.

This is the part you aren't getting. Nebraska's done, it's over. No recruits want to come play in your ugly flyover state anymore.

They have Mike Riley who's...

93–80 as a CFB coach & 14–34 as a NFL coach...

We have CMR who's...

136 & 48 in the SEC...

Haters will hate. lol.

Just like the so called experts said no northern team would win a national title again. Then two northern teams played for the national title last season. lol.

Every elite program rises and falls. If you don't understand that, then you are either a hater or just dumb.

One that plays in the Midwest (the populated, non-backwoods Midwest) and another that is bankrolled by Nike.

No one's investing in Nebraska anymore. It's why you hired Oregon State's (lol) coach after Bert told you guys to take a walk.
