What is Saban going to do with his linebackers next year?

Alabama has three MLBs (Hightower, Johnson and Mosley) competing for two spots. If Saban can land Clowney, there's a very good chance Upshaw and Clowney will be the starting outside backers. So, who's going to be the odd man out next year?

Redshirt Clowney. Duh. We are that deep

Moseley slides to the outside.

Make Hightower bulk up and play DE.
Hightower, Jesse Williams, Marcel Dareus, and Clowney/Upshaw (at Jack LB) across the front.
Problem solved.

Why not send a few to his former home?

Saban isn't getting Clowney, so he won't have to worry about that. By the way, just because a guy is a starter does mean he's out there for all of the defensive snaps.

1. Destroy
2. Rotate a couple of guys in
3. Goto 1

Upshaw and Clowney play the same position. Rush OLB or Jack. The position Bama recuits half of their class each year to play.

I think Hightower moving to DE is the best option. Nico played great in the bowl game, if he can keep it up he'll probably get one inside position. I really don't think CJ moves outside to Sam, because that's the position that normally comes out in Nickel formations, and CJ is great in pass coverage.

He has a nose for the ball, that's for sure. The catch that the TE made while he was in coverage was perfect. Mosely was in perfect position, and it is scary to think what he is going to be like next year.

Moral of the story is that Alabama's linebackers are going to be freakishly good next year.

Dont'a isn't moving to DE. Ed Stinson, on the other hand...

Has he beefed up enough to put a hand in the dirt?

He's 6-4 260 right now. He's only a redshirt freshman.

What are they trying to get him up to?

A typical 3-4 end is 275-290. Stinson could bulk up to that point. He practiced at DE during bowl practices, and saw some time there against Michigan State. He's roughly the same size Dareus was as a freshman. We'll just have to wait and see how he develops physically.

so you won't be sending any LB's to BR?

One more offseason with Cochran and he will be there.
