What is going on with kickers?

I remember, in the ancient days of cave people, that anything beyond 35 yards was a coin flip.
Now, even state has a dude that banged a 55 yarder. What is going on? That is not a normal thing, but it is now.

technique, lifting weights, kicking coaches? I had a similar thought just the other day… kickers seemed to have added about 10 yards if not more to the average distance..

Heard on a game the other night that this year the NFL players and special teams have the ability to work on(soften) the ball all game long vs minutes before the kick which can leave them hard on some kicks Id assume(I’m not a professional kicker).
I assume that helps.
The announcer that said it felt that we would see more accuracy from it at longer distances and maybe even longer kicks.

Our old kicker Cam Little made a 70 yard field goal in a preseason NFL game a few weeks ago. It seems bonkers to me.

They probably grew up playing soccer as well and built up the leg muscles and kicking technique to strike the ball better. We don’t see straight on kickers anymore.

My high school coach years ago was a kicker. He was all about form and air pressure. We played Cookeville HS at TN Tech’s stadium and he had someone adjust the pressure in a few of the kicker’s footballs in Tech’s equipment room. I don’t think they all passed the referee’s inspection.

I wish I could see you at a field with a bag of footballs and see what you'd do. More to it than everyone thinks. the kids I work with all think punting & kicking is nothing til I start working with them and giving them exercises and drills and really explaining the how to to them
