Please show me the data on the harm caused by a 24 yo throwing 60 pitches one day and 50 a couple days later. He's physically mature. Vitello would do the same damn thing and would be correct in doing so.

It is perfectly normal to put 125 pitches on your reliever in a (regular season) weekend after putting 110+ on his arm vs Georgia.

See it all the time

If you did consult me your pitchers would have a much better chance of being able to play catch with their kids one day.

Of course, they'll never go anywhere on the bench unused. Your guys can play catch with the kids while ours pitch in the bigs and win Cy Youngs and shite.

Once again fleeting results prioritized over long term health.

I’m starting to sense a pattern within the program :(

Does this mean Vitello is a perfect fit for LSU?

You do know that your AD passed on Vitello for the Mizzou job and hired who you have now right? Vitello was pissed.

After being around and interacting with Texas Tech fans this season...I’d say he is a good fit there.

Some believe Van Horn is directly responsible for Drew Smyly’s TJ surgery. Not a sterling record of pitcher health. But if you care only about series wins in May and not the health of your pitchers I can understand why so many posters are so quick to defend him.

shite happens. I've seen kids that were kept on strict pitch counts and given more than adequate rest while not being allowed to throw ANY curves end up having TJ surgery.

And Kopps is 24!!! Way different than an 18-22 yo. Not to say you want to wear him out, but his tendons and ligaments are mature and strong as they're gonna be. I think he probably has some input to. If it were me, gimme the ball. A MLB career is far from a certainty for any player.

If Dave was what you say he is he would have brought Kopps in yesterday and won that game

He’s at an age where he should be progressing through the minors, but instead has a manager burning through his arm while not getting paid a penny. Sad!

Van Horn made him stay instead of going pro? You gotta be trolling.

Ignore the idiots.

Vitello has thrown the starter today 100+ pitches 5 times this season.

Kid is 18 years old. Terrible.

Enh, I will say again I suspect that this series meant the world to Vitello and the Vols. This had probably been circled on the calendar for a long time.

To make matters worse he also knew that DVH probably went into the series with a "yeah, a series win would be nice, we've already locked up hosting for when things really matter."

When you lose and it means a lot to you, and the person that beat you was treating it like just another day at the office it stings a lot worse.

Regardless, a great series by the Vols and a nice win for the Hogs.

Nothing says ‘just another series’ like 125 pitches on a reliever

That is how DVH approaches a win or a loss. You don't get high as a kite after a win and you don't sob after a loss.

Damn. Now THAT is disgraceful. If you want to ruin a kid's arm, that is how you do it.
Should be keeping them in the 80-90 pitch range no matter what at that age.
