What does the SEC get out of playing a 9 game league schedule?

Unless the playoff committee has given notice to all the conference’s that metrics like SOS or SOR will be weighed more than W’s and L’s then I see absolutely no positive in going to 9 games. That means half the SEC will have an extra loss every season. The extra loss could be a killer to a SEC team on the bubble.
The playoff committee has shown over the years that they value W’s and L’s more than how hard a team’s schedule is. It just feels like the SEC could be giving up a spot or two in the playoff every year. I just see no value in this move for any SEC school.

You can have 9 reg season games and you can have a championship game but you can’t have both.

Well the Big 10, ND, and other leagues should have to schedule tougher OOC games. I will give credit to OSU, Mich, and FSU. As weak as the Big 10 and ACC conferences are though they should be required to schedule 1 or two more tougher games though.

That’s about it. Most SEC teams will be playing a horror show of a regular season schedule while ND and the other conferences get to play glorified exhibition games most weeks.

The SEC is making less money from its TV deal than the Big 10, while also having less of a chance to make the playoff.
Make it make sense.

If 2 or 3 SEC teams miss the playoff because they had to play an extra SEC game and lost then things could get really interesting for Sankey. I know people do not want to watch some cupcake come in and collect a check and a beating. If comes down to making the playoff or suffering through cupcake weekend though I think most fans will learn to like cupcakes.

People just have to be realistic. The committee has not, to this point, rewarded strength of schedule.
Now look at Ohio State's schedule:
Ball State
at Texas
Kent State
Illinois
at Iowa
Maryland
at Indiana
at USC
Oregon
Northwestern
at Nebraska
Michigan
I'd take that schedule easily.

Our conference admin gets to kiss the Big10's azz and virtue-signal. It definitely isn't to help the teams they are supposed to represent.
