Look at Auburn now. They are plummeting into the abyss. Saban's record against them stands to improve the next few years.

Is it the coach or the school? When Bryant and Saban both arrived at Alabama, they both were sitting at around 90 career victories and a winning percentage below 70%. Both of them won over 80% of the games they coached at Alabama and overachieved relative to what they had done in the jobs they had before arriving at Alabama.

Alabama was winning national Championships before both Bryant and Saban.
So Alabama had a track record before both.

Bryant didn't win at the level he did at Alabama at Maryland, Kentucky and Texas A&M.
Saban didn't win at the level he has at Alabama at Michigan St and LSU.

The common denominator is Alabama.
But there's a bit of a catch 22 with Saban. He said there were very few places that Saban said he'd leave the NFL for. You could probably count on one hand the schools.

There's also the reality that both Bryant and Saban also became better coaches at Alabama than they were at previous stops.

Of course there's about 5 or 6 schools with similar resources to Alabama. But Alabama gave Saban what he wanted from the boosters and administration. They basically gave him full control. Would that happen at those other places??? Ohio St? Notre Dame?
As we've seen at even Auburn this week, the boosters and administration can get very meddling. Alabama even has a history of doing so.

But something happened with Saban at Alabama. The boosters and administration gave him complete control. They just shut up and wrote checks when Saban asked them. Alabama has had one voice for the past 15 years. Saban's. You don't hear from or probably even know the names of the presidents and boosters at Alabama. Because you don't hear from them.

When Saban needed a new weight room. He got one without hesitation. Same with new dining facility and sports medicine building...and even staff that Sabam wants such as analysts, coordinator. Alabama boosters just shut up and write checks. Saban has the track record, so they don't question it.

So Alabama did get the perfect coach, but Saban stepped in the perfect situation.

Neither LSU or Michigan State had the resources that Alabama had but he was getting there with LSU.

It's why Les Miles won more at LSU (early on) than Saban did IMO, not because Miles was a better coach.

Saban also had an established reputation when he came to Alabama and already knew how to recruit the SEC, not so at LSU, thus it took longer to get off the ground.

Whether it was or wasn't cool, or morally right, or whatever, I stand firm in my decision to rob Bear Bryant's grave.

With Saban, I think he would've had similar success at any school with comparable resources maybe even more so at LSU because he'd already started building his program and wouldn't have had to waste 2 years in the NFL and 1-2 years rebuilding Bama.

Whatever makes you feel better. LSU has never been comparable to Alabama, and never will be comparable to Alabama. Don't get me wrong, I think LSU has a nice program that has accomplished plenty, but only fans of the have nots (compared to Blue Bloods) would say something like that.

I mean both Saban and Ms Terry have made similar statements so I'm not alone.

Eh, the only person Bowl stole from was the groundskeeper at Elmwood, whom I'm sure has had plenty of snacks at the expense of misguided Bama fans.

In answer to the OP, Saban is the GOAT. He passed Bryant in terms of the scale of his accomplishments in 2017.

Would you take other trinkets that other people leave at graves to memorialize the dead? Like a toy left at the grave of a child. You leave that shite there. If the groundskeeper has to eventually throw it away, that’s up to them. But you don’t disturb graves. That’s so much a given, it doesn’t really have to be explained.

When you are winning championships, folks tend to be "aligned" and overlook a lot of things. Saban has been able to be the Emporer because his teams win. If not, the boosters would have asserted themselves.

One could argue had he stayed at LSU he could mirror the success there that he's had at Bama.

I do agree that some schools simply tend to foster winning.
