Wow, you're a risk taker.
Since most coaches go the CFP all the time.
I still think A&M might have made a better decision by picking a coach earlier in his career who could grow a program. But this route was probably the next best choice.
Just because he probably won't reach the CFP doesn't mean that they aren't making the best play.

He'll make A&M better I believe. They'll have some double digit wins seasons again.
If he pops up say three ten plus win seasons in six years, and five top ten recruiting classes in that time, he will have earned every dime of his contract.

If options are young up and comer vs proven coach then the proven (national title, kept FSU at a high level for years proven) coach should be more likely to get you to where you want to be. The issue with most proven coaches is they don't want to leave and no one can afford them.

I don't believe Saban stays more than five years

I think he'll make A&m a stronger program and probably eventually beat LSJ but I don't seem him ever winning the SEC and will be out at Texas a&m before the contract is up. There's just bad flags with Jimbo now.

Not that much of a discount.

Ah, it's my Stanford bias. A&M did not really develop an identify under Sumlin, other than to have some exciting players. I'm thinking developing an identity is what you do first, then add the plug and play coach if you have to to take the final step. So under Harbaugh/Shaw, Stanford developed the rep of getting big linemen and tight ends and getting them in to the NFL. If Stanford alumni were as hungry as Aggie alumni and Stanford could pay the big bucks, a proven coach coming into that scenario could draft off the pre-existing identity as well as use his own reputation as a guru to lock down the playoffs.
Then again, maybe I'm just underestimating the fact that Oregon and USC were in decline as Stanford improved.

He's guaranteed 75 million. That's not pay to get to the CFP, that's pay to win it.
A&M is betting he'll win it, if not once, multiple times.
He's already been twice. I seem to be one of the few betting against him, especially if you look at the media's take.

Not what he's hired to do. Will the fanbase be happy with that? For awhile maybe. Look at Mark Richt. Of course Richt did win the conference twice in his first 5 years.

He's the second best coach in the west so if Saban retires anytime soon it'll be his to lose
About like chizik, had an amazing qb and talent, without that he sucks

That Barn team was 7-5 without Da Cam.
Jimbo is in a good situation going forward. The question for 2018 is how many talented players does Jimbo have on his roster that will saddle up and play the way Jimbo and staff will demand of them for 2018? I assume Jimbo will have his 2018 version of Junction this spring. Cull those that can't be converted to tuff football. Sumlin was the King of Soft football teams.
We'll see.

Second best recruiter probably . Not the second best coach .

Within a few years the West wil be between Bama and Aggie every year. LSU is falling fast and 4-loss Gus had two miracles go his way and peaked in 2013.
