just a thought — NIL contracts ought to be structured in a way where the players get paid 1/12th of 50% of their contracts during the season with 50% getting paid out AFTER their schools last game of the season as a bonus
Example: player contract is for $120,000
they get paid $5,000 per game during the season and get the remaining balance of $60,000 after either a) their team’s last regular season game or b) after their teams bowl game IF they participate
My job is commission based, and that is very similar to how I get paid (I get 50% of my earned commission when a sale is made and the last 50% when the project is completed and paid for)
This would only work if every school agrees and does the same
I’m pretty sure structuring like this would pass legal muster
obviously, injuries would not count against a player, but outside of that, players need to be forced to honor their side of contracts
anyone else have ideas that might work?

The concept of Scarcity.
Eliminate most of the lesser bowl games. .

If players would not opt out and go in the portal or transfer. The portal and transfer dates should be after the first of the year.

This doesn't change that there are way too many shitty bowl games. Bowl games ruined bowl games, not nil.

Be more like the PopTart bowl
Less bowls
Less teams
Less bowls
Less teams

You opt out you lose 25% of all your NIL from all sources.

There needs to be some kind of heavy penalty for opt outs

It's like some of you have no conception of how a market actually works. If there's a good player out there and you offer him a contract set up like that, I'll just offer him one that gives him all of his money up front. Who do you think he's going to sign with? The demand for elite-tier football talent far outstrips the supply, making it a seller's market. If you want the talent, you pay the going rate.

You are demonstrating a lack of knowledge of what NIL is.

Only the playoff games mean anything. All other bowl game are consolation prizes for teams in transition for next year. There is no other way to make non-playoff games mean anything because there is little to no important future outcome.

Make them part of the playoffs.

Did you miss the part where I said this only works if every school does it?
and that is exactly how the markets work in the real world

Ok, let's think about it. If you're going pro, do you think 25% NIL money and the risk of getting hurt compares to a NFL contract?

boosters pay out NIL money for a player to represent their school

What about players that have a season ending injury early in the season?

I did address that in the OP - treated differently, they get paid the full contract

Can’t. Greed has ruined the game. Starting with the criminally high salaries coaches started getting a few decades ago. This led to players wanting piece of the pie.

Expand playoff to 16 or 24 and have a separate 16 or 24 team G5 playoff.
Use the bowls for the playoffs.
Use the bowls for the playoffs.

Don't see how a pay structure for players would make
the bowls more interesting.
Truth is , there are way too many and they've
basically turned into bill boards for uninteresting matches
and a source of pride (if you can call it that) for the chamber
of commerce.
Not going to happen but at least halve the bowls with selection pool from
the say top twenty teams. I dunno. Only watched two bowl games so far.
