They only returned 1 everyday starter last year and none of their weekend starting pitchers. And yet were still regarded as the best team in the country by the time the regular season ended. This year they return 4 everyday starters and and a deep pitching staff.

You can either be satisfied with “almost” or you can do what needs to happen in order to win it all.

Arkansas has the resources and facilities to win it all.

Injuries will determine how far we go. We always seem to have a couple that really effect the team.

Already lost possibly best natural hitter for the year. 1 possible weekend starter is coming back from 2 years of injuries and is an unknown. I pitcher coming back after missing last year. Another who was clocked at 102 last year before injury may be back late in the year. Another coming back from injury is the most versatile player but isn’t 100% because he can’t throw yet.

Still practicing catching foul balls that would win the CWS.

Who do you choose to replace him? Let’s look at a list:

Top Active NCAA Division I Baseball Coaches (by Wins)

Paul Mainieri (South Carolina/LSU/Notre Dame): Re-emerged as the active wins leader (1,533+ wins) after returning to coach in 2025.

Danny Hall (Georgia Tech): With over 1,348 wins, he is among the top active leaders in career victories.

Dave Van Horn (Arkansas): Consistently ranked among the top active coaches with over 1,200 career wins.

Mike Bianco (Ole Miss): One of the longest-tenured and winningest coaches in the SEC, holding over 860 wins.

Tim Corbin (Vanderbilt): Renowned for high-win seasons and a top-tier winning percentage.

Elliott Avent (NC State): A veteran coach with over 1,100 wins.

Gary Gilmore (Coastal Carolina): Surpassed 1,300 wins before his retirement announcement.

Seems replacing the third most successful active coach would be stupid and probably program suicide.

Especially considering he was in the CWS last year and is on a current run of winning 18 or more SEC games every year since 2017. He's still winning at an elite level. This isn't a Paul Mainieri at LSU situation where he was slowly getting worse and worse and it was just time to move on. Van Horn is just the most snake bit coach in college baseball currently, but he's still having elite team after elite team. You can't fire a coach like that.

I doubt it so just asking if DVH is on any kind of hotseat or has he earned the right to retire on his own?
State fired Lemonis three years after winning the national championship. But then again, DVH did a LOT better than Lemonis the past three years.

It might take a team winning a NC who recently hired their coach (like Texas or MSU) to put DVH on the hot seat. That would make Arkansas fans say, "why not us", like so many fan are saying about Indiana in football.

Like Vitello who was Dave’s assistant coach? Arkansas baseball is a great experience during the season and the culture is great. A national championship would be great but if if means sacrificing what we have now for one great season then forget that.

I think they’ll be fine although I worry about the left side of the infield defensively and the strikeouts offensively.

Same as every year. Great regular season followed by a very frustrating exit in Supers or Omaha

Silly comment. Getting to Omaha is the goal. Once you’re there you hope all cylinders are firing. We won a title and we were the last team in the tournament. Period. UT set a record for wins that year and got bounced by Notre Dame in the Supers. There are some teams that are loaded end to end that doesn’t need a stroke of luck. But they are actually few. Doesn’t happen every year.

Yep, something always happens. Arkansas has probably had the best team in the country three of the last seven years and hasn’t won anything.

Arkansas ran off back to back SWC champion coach Ken Hatfield for dummy Jack Crowe.

3-8

Arkansas fired Nolan Richardson for Stan Heath.

9-19

The same would happen to baseball if they did the same to DVH.
