I'm happy to hear that most people from the state also think that place is creepy when driving through, you are not alone.

I've been to every SEC venue besides Missouri and miss state is by far the worst

Similar story for me except that I ended up a Razorback. I have MUCH experience with Highway 45 in MS and a little with Highway 412 in Arkansas. I can remember no distinct difference in road quality. The best way to Fayetteville is I-40 to I-49.
And yes. The 50 miles from MS to Mobile on 45 is literally hell on Earth

I hear you brother. I'm sure 90% or more of Harrison can't stand that small and loud POS Thomas Robb group of KKK outside their town - tiny community called Zinc, Arkansas
And sorry for the politics, but I've been told by residents there that he is protected by Democrats in local govt, not Republican. Hearsay, but there you go.

That and the traffic on a two-lane during the summer. just terrible

Didn't Dumb and Dumber drive thru there?

We paddled the Buffalo last year. Got out at Yellville (?) and drove up through Harrison. Harrison was unsettling, to say the least

Agree with you. Fayetteville is a very nice area. However, traversing across Arkansas’s highways can be a harrowing experience. Two Lane Highways rule with a passing lane thrown in here and there for good measure.
MS very much ahead of AR in the 4 lane highway department. I felt like I was home when I got back to Memphis. 78 to Tupelo and 45 to Meridian. Both are four-laned. MS may be behind you guys in a lot of things but in 1987, the government passed legislation called Mississippi AHEAD. Over the last 30+ years, virtually every major highway has been four-laned and even some more secondary highways have been as well.
To cite one example: US Highway 45 is four-laned in MS completely from TN to AL. Alas, you cross over the Bama line and you are greeted with a harrowing two lane highway for 50+ miles into Mobile. This despite the huge amount of commercial and pleasure traffic on the highway.
My Arkansas travelling has been limited to two areas: going to Fayetteville either from Fort Smith or on US 412), and crossing the very southern end of Arkansas on US 82 a couple of times driving back from baseball series in Starkville. I live in Wichita Falls, Texas, which is on US 82 just like Starkville, so taking 82 ought to be the best way between these two point, but, alas, the Arkansas segment of this road slows you down so much that going on I-20, even with DFW traffic and an extra 50 miles, is usually quicker. If they straightened 82 (it seems to just follow other roads for much of the trip through Arkansas) out like it is in Mississippi, it would sure be nice, but I doubt that ever happens.

This. Everybody lumps it together, but Harrison isn't that bad. Also, the Snow-Bruno- Pyatt areas are creepy. When I was younger, I installed Satellites in those areas and Zinc. Creepy as frick.

Incorrect, per Google maps. But not by as much as I anticipated.

I can't think of any highways you'd take from most parts of MS to Fayetteville which are two lanes.

No doubt about that. It’s all about preference. Hell there’s a ton of people that think Louisiana looks like a shite hole. I personally love La, but don’t find Arkansas attractive at all.
You have no idea how pleased this makes Arkansas fans or the terror it strikes in the heart of LSU fans.

You must be crazy then. It is all interstate from Memphis to Fayetteville. Which way did you go?

It used to be much, much, much worse. Heck, Bear Bryant said he went to Bama instead of Arkansas because it was easier to get to Tuscaloosa than Fayetteville from Fordyce.
