Not sure why they left and Arkansas stayed
Not sure either. Originally, UT got Arkansas, LSU and Ole Miss representatives together and asked if they wanted to form a conference. Ole Miss and LSU turned the offer down and went on to become founding members of the SEC. Arkansas agreed to terms with Texas and helped found the Southwest Conference. The Oklahoma schools played two season and moved on to form the Big-7. Arkansas was left as the outcast cousin of the Texas schools that would rather be in a conference with LSU and Ole Miss. Arkansas would meet back up with the Rebs and the Tigers 65 years later, and the rest is history.

People are saying nice things about Fayetteville in this thread, I'm shocked.

Hard disagree on this one. It was better than the rest of the state I’ll give you that.

shorter trip than Staters traveling to USC
Believe it or not Columbia, SC is closer to Starkville than Fayetteville, Arkansas.

No doubt about that. It’s all about preference. Hell there’s a ton of people that think Louisiana looks like a shite hole. I personally love La, but don’t find Arkansas attractive at all.

Hoping for a quick ending to the the stupid contract that requires us to play Arkansas in jerryworld every year.
Arky-Aggie game needs to be a home and home.

That is an Oregon Trail type trip.
Easy solution is to not come back.

Starkville is indeed unique in that wherever it's residents travel (any direction) is an upgrade.

And Arkansas is the renaissance state of the south? We've all got shitty places and nice places. Get out more bud.

Agree with you. Fayetteville is a very nice area. However, traversing across Arkansas’s highways can be a harrowing experience. Two Lane Highways rule with a passing lane thrown in here and there for good measure.
MS very much ahead of AR in the 4 lane highway department. I felt like I was home when I got back to Memphis. 78 to Tupelo and 45 to Meridian. Both are four-laned. MS may be behind you guys in a lot of things but in 1987, the government passed legislation called Mississippi AHEAD. Over the last 30+ years, virtually every major highway has been four-laned and even some more secondary highways have been as well.
To cite one example: US Highway 45 is four-laned in MS completely from TN to AL. Alas, you cross over the Bama line and you are greeted with a harrowing two lane highway for 50+ miles into Mobile. This despite the huge amount of commercial and pleasure traffic on the highway.

NWA is a bitch to get to, so plan on staying more than 1 night. Make it worth the trip. Like going to Hawaii

Arkansas has 2 parts draw a line from Texarkana through west of Little Rock up to Jonesboro. NW side is gorgeous and nice. SE side, well...
I love Lake DeGray out of Arkadelphia and up North is Norfolk and Buffalo River. It doesn't get any better than that IMO. But there are parts in the northern parts where the hillbillys scare me more than being in a ghetto.

We paddled the Buffalo last year. Got out at Yellville (?) and drove up through Harrison. Harrison was unsettling, to say the least
