I agree they were not that great before then.

BUT, I do not see LSU going backwards. Even if Coach O fails them, Saban/Miles put them on the map, showed that you can lock down that state and have top flight recruits. I believe that LSU will always be a top school moving forward.

Name one decade outside of that 1999-2009 run where LSU had a good run? I'll wait on never.

Did you just make up an 11 year decade?

It's funny how many people believe the narrative that LSU has only been a good program since 2000.

It's because most people at the start of message boards/social media are 30-35 now, so what they remember is 1990-2017. Therefore, their "pre-Saban" memories of LSU are them being mediocre or terrible. And, because most people are dumbfvcks, they just assume that's the way it always was because there aren't a bunch of national title in that period from 1930-1990. And that narrative stuck and was passed down to people who are 20-30 now.

Long story short, most people are dumb and if there aren't shiny objects (Championships) they assume the program must have been going 4-6 every year.

It is the age group of this board. They were in their formative years in the 90's, and for some reason incapable of looking up the fact lsu was ranked top 15 all time before 2000......

good grief. Georgia may be #1 in the CFP poll. But Alabama is #1 in the worst posters on the SEC Rant.

Good thing you won't have to worry about seeing our post, since most of you will go hiding after this weekend.

We have 20 top 10 finishes in the ~80 years the AP has had a poll. So essentially one out of every 4 teams LSU has fielded were among the best in the nation.
If you want to go top 20 then throw on another ~20 LSU squads.

We've pretty much never not had good football teams except for the 90s. And even then we had a couple finish top 15

Dude has no idea what he's talking about. LSU has been winning big since CFB started and is a top ~10 program all time

It's always funny when people claim LSU fans started watching football in 2000 not realizing they don't know shite before 90. We finished top 10 in 86 and 87 for Christ sake.

I'm going to go into hiding if Alabama beats LSU this weekend? What's going to happen on the way back to the car?

This is going to blow some Bama posters minds, which is funny because they claim to "know history."

CFB warehouse has always been loved by this board, and rightfully so

Here are the all time program rankings from 1869-2000.

Take a look where "below mediocre" lsu is

Most SEC football programs who were mediocre/bad in the 80's and 90's are not going to have much hardware, because Alabama was gobbling it all up (for the most part) in the 1960's and 1970's.

LSU finished ranked in the Top 13 9 times over 13 years from 1961 to 1973. That's really good.

Unfortunately for them, they went 2-8 vs Alabama over that span (both wins in Alabama's bad years of 1969/1970) and finished right behind Alabama almost all of those years (outside of 1969/1970).

Like many SEC teams they were just not quite good enough to beat Bryant, and so their really good teams didn't win titles. On top of that they couldn't quite catch Auburn or Georgia in the 1980s. They finished 1 game out of 1st place 4 times in the 1980s.

Yeah, we were 12th all time in winning % the day Saban was hired and are 11th today.

LSU is a top 15 program all time. Both the 90s and 00s showed their potential, as any program can be really bad. But lsu can also be very very good.

LSU has probably had more close but no cigar teams than anybody else in the league over the last 75 years.

Interesting Georgia Tech and Minnesota are still that high with all the "lost" decades since... oh 1960 or so.

People just tend not to remember (or don't know) how good those programs, particularly Minnesota, were at one time.
