Given LSU’s history of mediocrity (or worse), how could the Saban-Miles years be viewed otherwise?

ITT I learned that having the 13th best all-time winning percentage before the year 2000 is potentially worse than mediocrity

I also learned that 2 national championships and 4 conference championships in a decade is "decent to good"

I would research that statement and prepare a 100 slide presentation backed by lots of impressive numbers, qualitative data, and historical comparisons, but I already drink too much.

Between the 60s, 70s, 80s and 2010s.............LSU has probably had 10-15 seasons where they were 1 win away from winning the conference and being in whatever the defacto title game was at the time.

This right here shows your ignorance about Bama and SEC football! The Bear says Hello. Wallace Wade and Frank Thomas are laughing at you from the Rose Bowl!

Well given they have 0 conference championships and zero national championships in 20 years, I'd say they're somewhere between awful and poor.

I wish posters like you were an anomaly. LSU doesn’t have a history of mediocrity or worse.

Yes we do. Mike Archer, Curly Halman and Jerry Dinardo. We failed to have a winning season numerous times in this stretch.

Most every team has had a run like this. Even the great Alabama had some pretty crappy season in the 2000's.

Cant play football for 100 years without some lousy stretches.

5. Alabama (.721)
13. Tennessee (.681)
15. LSU (.650)
16. Georgia (.649)
20. Florida (.630)
21. Auburn (.629)

So I guess we should have this thread for the entire Big Six. Or did you not feel like singling out UGA, Florida or Auburn today?

No, no, no.

Bama just beat themselves a lot more those years.
Also for some reason, the team was "vacating" a lot. Sometimes they vacated in Hawaii but mostly they just vacated. They brought some coach down from Pullman, WA and he vacated his arse off in Pensacola. Good times.

Nope, great talent in state and east Texas that LSU has proven is a consistent source that will be feeding them.

Conference, stadium, fan base, recent track record.. all strong. For at least a decade or two LSU is in the "just need the right HC" catagory to be top 5 or 10 program.
