I think youre confused. When people are sayig ceiling they mean max potential

Right, but how do you quantify that? To me it’s how impactful they are in the NFL.
quote:

Jamarcus Russell HIGH Ceiling. All the tools, he showed he could play the position in college.

He showed he could play in college, but couldn’t make the jump to the NFL. It’s certainly possible that great college QB and mediocre NFL QB was his ceiling. For whatever reason some QB’s just can’t make that jump. Maybe it’s because they’ve hit their ceiling or maybe it’s because their game just doesn’t translate.

So you're saying every player in the NFL reaches their ultimate potential?

Thats seems unlikely.

The whole point is the speculative limits on a player. How good or how bad could he possibly be. Not how good they actually are when we can look back.

I’m saying there’s no concrete way of knowing. It’s possible Russel had wasted potential and it’s possible his ceiling was good college QB and mediocre NFL QB.

Of course there isn't. its sort and estimate anyway.

but its pretty clear Russell had more potential than that. If he had put the work in. Which literally anyone can do. He wasn't a huge lazy load in college.

Maybe. It’s also possible the game became too fast for him. College level defenses and nfl level defenses are completely different. Matt Leinhart didn’t have the same success in the NFL. Troy Smith won the heisman at OSU and did nothing in the nfl.

it definitely did when he ballooned up to 270 pounds.

And you can ask questions about either's ultimate potential. Neither had the cannon that Jamarcus had.

Troy Smith was drafted pretty low because he had a low ceiling

I don't really think that Pickens belongs in this convo, but just from watching the other 3 several times, there isn't a big gap, if any gap, between Chase, and Waddle, and Smith.

So yes your feelings.

There’s a reason Russell went 1st, and those other guys did not. Russell had a very high ceiling. Much better arm strength than either of those other guys.

lol true. Still, different players handle the jump differently.

I can list tons of QB’s that just didn’t work out after being drafted early. Some players peak in college. Potential is an unknown, so it’s all subjective.

Apparently not. Tons of ppl can throw a football far. Doesn’t mean they have a high ceiling as an NFL quarterback.

You guys are funny. Maybe if Seth went somewhere else... But his potential will not be sniffed under the current coaching staff

I don’t think you know what a high ceiling means.
