Just use the computer ranking.
Once the rankings are done, do the following:
1) make sure automatic qualifier for conf champions are in. Remove the lowest seeded BCS ranked team - if necessary- with automatic conf champions qualifier if not represented in BCS computer rankings.
2) G4 school- same thing as above. If not represented in BCS computer rankings, remove lowest seeded BCS ranked team and replace with the G4 team
The argument against the BCS computer model was always because there were only 4 teams that made it. No one really argues about any bias of the model. Now with 12 team playoff using the computer model is the way to go.

The only people complaining about the playoffs are the ones NOT in the playoffs.
Their concerns can be easily dismissed.

I’ve been saying this. Completely agree.

You sure I saw aggies fat frick coach bitching about seeding yesterday. He knows his team is in huge trouble if the doesn’t get the G5 team in the first round.

Wasn't Elko literally just bitching about seeding?

And you know why they don’t use it?
Because college football gets off on the controversy of rankings.
They get free publicity and give the talking heads something to fill their mindless drivel.

OP, you are 100% correct. But that is way to simple and easy for them. Its even more easy in the age of computers we have now days.
But its not about whats fair. Its about a group of people making decisions behind closed doors with no accountability to decide which is the match ups they like. Its the same group of people that run sports, politics, and about every other part of society.

BCS weights the opinion of dumb people too much. Eliminate the AP portion of the formula, and I’d be on board.

The AP wasn't part of the BCS after the 2003 debacle.

Yeah, sorry, I should have clarified. The current formula used for BCS simulations uses the AP, since the Harris Interactive Poll no longer exists. We’d need to replace the AP poll in order for me to fully get on board.

people have run the BCS formula each of the last several years and they match up almost exactly (very few deviances) every year with the CFP

That’s because they print out the BCS rankings and try to reverse engineer them with talking points. That’s why they often sound so dumb when trying to explain their opinion.
Eventually, they use foresight to see the train coming down the track and make preemptive adjustments - like moving Bama to #9 to protect the SEC Championship & give them an excuse to bump Bama to #4 and get a BYE with a win.

Most people here too would lose their fricking minds with nothing to talk about or troll about if this were to happen.

OP, what the committee doesn't want to admit is they already are using a BCS style of computer rankings. They are just tweaking it according to their desires. Its such BS. There is more meddling and tampering in DIV1 college football than any other sport.
