I’ve always had a great time in Starkville, and the Cotton District has been a great addition. Some great concerts & great restaurants. But be careful where you park or you’ll get towed pretty quick.

Only two SEC campuses have presidential libraries. MSU and A&M.
To all you vegetable heads in the back, Starkville was named after Revolutionary War hero Gen. John Stark.

I learned something from the rant tonight. I would never have thought that the U.S. Grant Library is in Starkville, given his brutal treatment of the citizens of Vicksburg.

Has it changed in the last 3 years? Because I was there three years ago and it was still a shithole then. Except for the ball park. It’s exceptional.

USA Today is still around? Huh, who knew.

wife is an MSU CVM grad, went back to Starkville for the MS Vet Med Association meeting a year or so ago
stayed in a bnb a block or two from where we lived when she was in school in the early 90s
back then it was a street of quaint 40-50 year old houses
today its a street of the same quaint now 70-80 year old houses
it was literally like stepping back in time
i found it curiously comforting

There are 17,000+ Union soldier graves at Vicksburg Memorial Park. More than anywhere.

“Why is Grant's Presidental library at MSU?”
State is located halfway between Shiloh and Vicksburg where his name became prominent in the Civil War. Many felt that the library can serve as beacon of reconciliation, that it could present actual facts instead of half truths, dispel some myths etc.
Plus there are only 6 universities in the US that are host to a Presidential Library so the fact that Mississippi State is one of those is pretty cool.
I have been wanting to go there for a while but just haven’t had the chance yet.

The Grant Presidential Library also holds one of the largest collections of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia in the country.
