Missing out on bowl money and the whole probation thing didn't help

Exactly!

Pank said yesterday that the NCAA sanctions were $20MM, plus the loss of bowl revenue is steep.

It makes perfect sense that OM is cutting 8.5% off the budget. It makes no sense for Auburn to cut 10% across the board.

That was still the dumbest thing I have seen on this forum and that is saying a lot.

Remember the whole "he will either agree to a reduced buyout or be fired!" argument?

Hell, they just got done paying off Tuberville and Chizik.
Don’t be retarded. Tuberville’s buyout was done immediately after he resigned in 2008 and Chizik’s has been done for at least 4 years.

I was under the impression that the SEC money was set aside and will be paid out at a future date upon the lifting of sanctions and the bowl money was a total loss but it isn't 20 million.

It's been almost a decade since LSU made it to Atlanta.

Actually, only 7 seasons.

But, yeah. They're definitely way better than Auburn.

In those 7 seasons, LSU is 5-2 vs Auburn - including 3-0 at home and 2-2 at Auburn.

So yeah, I agree, WAY better.

pank stated the $20MM figure.

50% of the SEC distribution was set aside for OM to be distributed at the end of sanctions, the other 50% was distributed to the other 13 schools. The 2017-2018 sanctions made them forfeit $7.1MM in distributions.

I think Ole Miss is increasingly shifting its focus to being the university of Northern Mississippi and Memphis.

This is not necessarily a bad long term strategy I should add. Northern Mississippi is growing like a weed and Memphis and the surrounding area has a pretty decent sized population.

As to the decline in ticket sales... I hate to attribute something to one game but the 4th and 25 game took the wind out of the Ole Miss sails. They had dreams of being a national title contender and it all crashed down to Earth. Remember what happened to Miami back in the day after Bama spanked them in the national title game?

yeah sounds like his math is off, he is probably including lost ticket revenue from their fair weather fans.

Yeah, they won another national championship.

Your point?

My point, which you missed, is that they dropped off the radar before they won another national title. But... I should have used smaller words so you could understand.

Let me try again.

Big loss bad!

That may have been a bit complex for you to grasp.

Miami's record for the 8 seasons between 1993 and 2000 was 70-25 (73.684 win%), good for 11th in the country.

Arkansas fans would LOVE to fall off the radar like Miami did during that time.

Since getting their shite pushed in by LSU in the 2005 Peach Bowl, 41-3, Miami has gone 97-69 (58.434 win%), good for 40th in the country. Now THAT's Arkansas level of falling off the radar.

Yeah, I didn't think you had much of a point.

Green is trying to put his mark on AU. He's ruffled some booster feathers who think he's doing a little too much with the cuts, particularly when it comes to team travel. I highly doubt he's doing anything that puts performance in jeopardy by taking buses over planes, but I do think boosters want to see him find the right balance and not make decisions just in an effort to show that there is a new way of doing business.

Obviously we don't have to behave like Buffalo. Maybe a little bit of discipline will do us good, but again, balance.

Clearly, Auburn is trying to economize in an effort to save up money for the Buy Out.

This is a great perspective for what Green is trying to do. But he absolutely has to realize this is the SEC, and Auburn is lagging behind in the facilities dept right now. He isn't at Buffalo anymore and his predecessor bent over backwards to keep those big $$ boosters happy.

Green just doesn't have experience running a program as big as AU, and the decision to cut 10% across the board may come back to bite him. I can't imagine Butch & Bruce returning the CWS & AU's 1st final four to learn they will have to shave off 10% of their budget while there's a highly over paid coaching staff in the football offices turning out mediocre results.

Green is doing a lot of good things, saying the right things, and apparently is listening to the right people. I think he's got a chance to really grow into the role, but if that is to happen there are obviously going to be some speed bumps as what he "brings to the table" conflicts with "how things are done."

That whole thing was handled poorly.

Rumors of Boosters courting Bob Stoops, then fans swearing the money ($31.7MM) was on the table to shite can Gus while the Prez was in DC and another Booster was working with Gus to delegitimize a contract that was less than a yr old.

The only reason we are cutting money is because we missed out on bowl share money from the SEC the last two seasons.

AU needs a football only facility and Gus pledged $2MM of his own money. Why hasn't your AD presented plans for BOT approval, when is the time line to break ground?

It's been approved and is now in the schematic design phase. I look for construction to start within 18 months.

Why did AU recently delay the baseball upgrades which were promised to Thompson when he was hired 3 yrs ago?

Already approved and construction is to start after next baseball season concludes.
