I wonder if he can be there before the Oregon game?

Leave it to Auburn...if the coach can't cheat well enough, go after a liar who can't do enough of it.

Yes, but it’s not hard to replace a mediocre one like Gus

Auburn wants someone who played at Bama, has head coaching experience and has actually beaten Saban. They want Sylvester Crxxms.

I purposefully left that out of the equation because Gus does have some very favorable qualities on his resume, which will be considered when weighing whether to pay him that $26.6MM buyout or ride with him another few yrs until if reduces to a reasonable amount.

From all appearances, he runs a clean program. He doesn't put up with shite from his players and he's easy to work for, i.e. his players and coaches love him. He is a good coach and a high character guy, he's a good man and represents Auburn well. That means a lot at a place like Auburn.

He can get 8 wins again this season and they'll should be satisfied due to that brutal schedule and playing a QB that has little to no on the field experience.

Gus is going 7-5 or 8-4. There will be much hand wringing about his future, but in the end he will be back (and firmly on the hot seat) for 2020.

If he goes anywhere it's going to be USC. I still suspect Lynn Swann will try to steal Franklin once the PSU contract expires at the end of this season, but Cali schools don't pay football coaches the way they do out east so expect Penn state to come in 2+ mil/year higher than USC.

That's about $7.5-8 mil/year. For that they can definitely get Urban, and that's about the only name that could justify the price tag to admin.

Fans will bitch and complain but $26MM is a lot of money and then they'd have to buyout his staff and start all over. If the new staff is unproven and has no big time (SEC level) college coaching experience, then AU will stick with what they've got and ride with Gus & Co.
