It's still an impressive feat to take a $10 million buyout without having ever won a single SEC game. Ugh... don't get me started on buyouts and retarded ADs that agree to them for coaches literally no one else is looking at.

Chad also constantly telling everyone he was a nothing but a "high school coach" over and over again was one of the most bizarre approaches to college coaching I've ever seen.
It's like he was yelling in all caps to them that he was an incompetent dumbass. It took Gus years to shed the "high school" label, yet Chad openly encouraged it.

How did Arkansas ended up hiring him to be the HC of Arkansas in the first place?
Then Gus hired Chad Morris because he is a HS coach that Gus runs a HS offense. That makes perfect sense!

Jerry Jones and his ilk, that's how.
When Jeff Long was fired, the GOB network got to work with quickness. They had an Inrerim AD dumbass woman who would do whatever they said because she thought she could get the job permanently, and then proceeded to bungle interviews with good prospective candidates like Norvell and ignored calls from Leach, who had wanted the Arkansas job for 20 years.
When the top prospects fell through, the Boosters got involved even more and then began to push for Gus because many of them have/had a huge love affair with him.
So they chased him and chased him, which probably led them to ignore other good prospective coaches, and when that fell through, and Gus used Arkansas for nothing more then leverage and he got his big deal from Auburn, they were fricked. They then called Leach back, but by then he was so pissed he told them to screw off.
During the Gus chase, he also recommended Chad because he was marketed as the next best thing to Gus. A search firm they hired also recommended Chad.
This was especially good for Jerry Jones, who pushed hard for Chad, because that meant his grandson, who was in no way an SEC prospect, would get a scholarahip to Arkansas. Jerry's grandson played at the same high school that Chad's son did, so they knew him.
And it worked out well, too. Jerry's grandson can now tell his kids and grandkids that he started a game against Alabama as the QB of the Arkansas Razorbacks. That happened. A kid who is basically 6th string and will never see the field ever again, was named the starting QB when Chad was cycling through everybody on the roster every year.
Once Chad was hired, Arkansas brought in a new AD and he was saddled with him for the next 2 yrs.
Thats pretty much the gist of it. Jerry can also now say that he hired the worst coach in SEC history, so he's got that going for him.

That stadium is about a mile from my house.

Makes sense. Arkansas looked like a High School team when he was the coach.

We were an absolute shite show. Then Aubies tried to brag about hiring him, hahahaha.

Tell us what Doug Barfield was up to after his tour of duty at the Barn? Hint: Think Mike Dubose.

I never liked the hire, even with all the sunshine pumpers talking about his offenses' numbers when he was an OC.

That stadium is ridiculous for a high school

Why do all the coaches buy tacky assymetrical looking McMansions when they could buy a really nice looking mansion

That is one hell of a stadium for a high school

Kids go to Allen and I live 5 minutes from the stadium
I’ll do a drive by later and report back.
Rumor is his kid is going to UNT if he can’t play at TCU so he wants to lay low for 2-3 years and watch him play

Sounds like that was doomed from the start for him.

Northview and Luverne. Then back to the college ranks with Milsaps and Memphis. But has been at Opp since 2015.

Allen is about the highest level high school job there is. Has to pay over 200K per year. Great chance to win state.

So he rented a mansion for a few years, and got most of his money back on it. Then he received 10M to leave Arkansas, and more money to coach at Auburn for a year as OC, and bought out again. His son ended up with a free scholarship, and his family didn't even have to move.
And now he coaches at the high school with the best facilities in Texas. He honestly could retire off of this and never have to work again

Don’t forget the dude drove a Raptor truck and also a corvette.
He was high school to the core.

Yeah, but he wins the lottery at life. He made tens of millions of dollars between SMU/ARK, took AU for a little more to do basically nothing as OC, and then lands one of the best HS jobs in all of Texas.
Impressive. Oh, and A&M has had problems getting players out of Allen so I love this move.
