I’m willing to bet the vast majority of college sports fans share this sentiment.
well, that's the thing - there's not a Gamecock or Sandlapper around who gives a damn what the vast majority thinks or cares about. that's been true for 221 years - and counting.

this correction was done on behalf of the Carolina Alumni & fans who were USC Fighting Gamecocks for the 218 years before 2019's marketing mishap.

“The actions announced today reflect our commitment to enhancing our iconic brand,” President Michael Amiridis said in a news release. “In my short time back at the university, alumni and other stakeholders have told me how important it is to return the USC name back to the institution. We are initiating that change today.”

This change comes three years after USC adopted the “UofSC” logo in 2019. “The Board of Trustees strongly supports this action,” Board Chairman Thad Westbrook said in a news release.

“Our alumni and stakeholders have overwhelmingly stated their strong desire to return to the USC name and the USC tradition. We are excited about this change.”

U$C: Univ of Southern California (aka, SC or Sovereign Cow)
USC: Univ of South Carolina (aka, South Cackalacky, arse-Kicking Chickens, Soused Caramelizer)

While we're here:

F$U: Florida State
FSU: Fresno State

Here’s a take from a neutral party

When the majority of people think of university abbreviations, they usually associate it with the better school

So to most, USC was and will always be Southern Cal so because of that, I actually liked UofSC

Another poster mentioned UT with Texas and Tennessee working out and sorry to break it to you, but the majority of folks don’t even think of Tennessee when they read UT, it’s pretty much always Texas

About damn time! The students, alumni all hated it and let the university know it in no uncertain terms. Glad they finally listened and dumped that crap, although I'm sure they wasted a lot of money with a marketing firm to come up with that "New Coke" quality idea.

Growing up in Louisiana, UT was always Tennessee. This from an LSU fanbase that did not play them with much regularity.

Then I lived in Texas a long time, even got an advanced degree from the University of Texas in Austin.

But, UT still means Tennessee to me.

Carolina spent close to 7 figures with a marketing firm in - ohio - who's main color itself was - orange - to add the word 'of' to ruin our longtime USC logo. true story.
