Ultimate retired jersey NUMBER list

Sinkwich and Trippi both make sense for UGA, as well. Vernon Smith will always be kinda weird (especially now that the rivalry with Tech has become incredibly one sided and we are poised to break their winning streak record in the series this season)

The "Ring of Honor" we have at UF is already cringe enough.

Plus, the players moving forward never really attend a school for the school. It's all about the $$$.

Jayden Daniels would have eventually had his jersey retired. Billy Cannon is the only one who didn't have to wait a long time, but he was the first Heisman winner and the leader of LSU's first consensus national title winning team.

Every other jersey that has been retired, the player had to wait between 38 and 56 years to receive that distinction.

But to the point of this thread, players at LSU football I think should ultimately have their jerseys, not numbers, retired are:

#9 Joe Burrow
#3 Kevin Faulk
#5 Jayden Daniels
#7 Patrick Peterson/Tyrann Mathieu
#72 Glenn Dorsey
#66 Alan Faneca

That's probably it as of now, but I don't expect any of those dudes to be honored with the exception of maybe Kevin Faulk and Alan Faneca for a long time. Peterson and Mathie prob never will because they didn't earn degrees from LSU. Daniels may not either because I don't think he actually finished his masters degree. Burrow did. Faulk and Dorse graduated while playing. Faneca returned to graduate a couple years after leaving for the NFL. Burrow earned his masters while at LSU.

LSU will never retire a number again and it's actual a policy of the AD as of 2007. There's one number in baseball (Bertman), three in basketball (Shaq/Petite/Maravich), and one in football (Cannon). They will never retire another number again

Retiring college numbers is stupid AF. There are over 100 players on the roster already so you are just causing the duplicate number thing to be even worse.

I respect the schools who don't do it and wish Texas would follow suit.

You made a specific call out that Stetson shouldn’t have his number retired because he hasn’t graduated. Herschel Walker’s number was retired in 1985. He didn’t graduate till 2024. You directly implied that graduation was a criteria for a retired number. It’s fair to ask if you believe Herschel should not have had his number retired before 2024.

I think if you lead a team to a natty or maybe win a heisman you entertain it. The list should be very small even for schools like Bama.
