re: The South lost Stonewall Jackson on this day 163 years ago...

Fun fact: Stonewall Jackson is on record as saying the South’s darkest days weren’t the capture of New Orleans or any other city of that matter, but rather its inaction following the first battle of Bull Run.
That’s when the war could have been won but - due to confederate dysfunction - sat there with a thumb up their arse looking at each other instead of pressing the initiative.
There were other opportunities for the South to win, including and especially better diplomacy to get UK and France involved. That probably would have required a commitment to wind down slavery - which they probably would have done anyway - but they failed on that front too.
Anyway, the South had its chances. They lost. Oh well.

The south was never going to win, they put everything they had into, while the north never had to put a great effort into it. 75-85% of military aged men fought for the South, while the north only put forth about 35-50%. Also keep in mind the population of the north was 4 times that of the south, plus they had all the factories.
The South could have won. European markets at the time gave them a 44% chance and that’s probably about right.

Why are you roiding out over an interaction that didn’t actually happen when you wore your house slippers to Rouse’s this morning

No, there is something more to it than that. People thought of that already.

Statistically the 2 years in a man’s life he’s most likely to die are 1) the year he’s born, and 2) the year he retires.
The loss of “meaning” does something bad to us, so make sure you find something to replace it with. Sounds like you’re the type to resist that seductive call of the couch and your iPhone; make sure you do.

Whenever I start to do Chore A, without fail my wife will ask why I’m doing this and not Chore B.
For example, yesterday morning I finally started to organize/clean out the garage and she came in asking me when am I ever going to get around to repainting the closet.
Take a wild guess as to what her reaction would have been if yesterday morning she saw me start repainting the closet.
And she wonder why I often just sit my arse down on weekends and don’t do shite:lol:

WFH is a terrible idea for young people. Idc who you are, your work product only gets you so far. The rest of what you need is relationships and people who can see you’re a good dude/dudette they want to work with.
I’m a little older (40s) and do mostly WFH, but I’m under no impression that it’s better for my career to do so. I just make the tradeoff bc 1) it allows me more time with my young kids, and 2) I’ve progressed to a point in my career where I’d be fine if I had this same job until I retire.
When my kids are all in school then I’ll probably start getting after it again, but for now I’m making the tradeoff.
But again, dumbest thing in the world to do if you’re starting out and trying to get started.

I don’t have any special knowledge of it, but I think it’s highly possible if not even likely that it was friendly fire.
The Weiss story always sounded weird too, but then again they all do.
