You are splitting hairs.

He's 110-52 at BYU.

A 68% winning percentage is good. BYU has a 63% all time winning percentage. And they have never had any success in the NCAA tournament. Hell, they’ve barely even made it. Except for that run from 2007-2012, and then 2014-15. Definitely a trash program.

And he has a strong NCAA tournament resume with only 2 losses. No wins, but only 2 losses.

This hire makes sense. Because Cal’s NCAA tournament performance is what got him run off. Hire a guy with a clean slate and see what happens.

Actually, I doubt many Kentucky fans even looked at Pope’s resume. Because they sure didn’t see him coming. We can hire anyone we want. Kentucky’s last four hires with their head coaching experience beforehand:

Tubby Smith: .643 at Tulsa (4 seasons), .703 at Georgia (2 seasons)

Billy Gillespie: .484 at UTEP (2 seasons), .729 at Texas A&M (3 seasons).

John Calipari: .730 at UMass (8 seasons), .759 at Memphis (9 seasons). Note: he won .769 of his games at Kentucky and you hate him.

Mark Pope: .579 at Utah Valley (4 seasons), .679 at BYU (5 seasons).

John Calipari was the outlier and you ran him off. Mark Pope is on par with Tubby and Billy.

Not sure why he’s talking. I think UK did the smart thing letting go of Cal. Pope may turn out well. I don’t understand the smack talk about not advancing a Mormon school in the tourney. Getting them there js a miracle.

Arkansas just got Houston Nutt 2.0. 67 years old and securing that overpriced beach house.

The rant is full of people who don't know what they are talking about.

Pope is meeting with Big Z this morning, and Thiero posted a image of UK in his instagram last night after the presser. Now that Pope is here, let's see what truly happens with the current roster, and the current recruits.

Interesting to me that DJ Wagner has been silent, as well as Billy Richmond. They were HS teammates. Would love to keep Reed, DJ, and bring in Billy. Bring back Thiero, Z and Onyenso, and then a couple from the transfer portal, and you would have a very solid team.

There is absolutely nothing like Kentucky basketball. Only here would we pack out Rupp Arena with 20K+ and still have to to turn away another 5K for an introductory press conference.

I’m really not trying to talk shite, but Mark Pope didn’t go to UK until he was an upperclassmen. He is from the state of Washington and played his first 2 years at UW.

It’s not like he’s a local Kentucky kid that walked on at Kentucky and then made the team and then blah blah blah.

I wish him well but…

He did, but have you listened to him talk about what his time at UK meant to him?

Jeff Shepherd, another beloved player from the 1990's was from Georgia, UK fans see him as one of their own. Pope was seen as a hard working big guy and a valuable piece of probably one of UK's best teams in history. So, I get the love.

Overcompensating to justify the disapounting hire. They advertised and held it on a sunday so everyone would attend
Ark didnt advertise and held it on a wed with just 18 hours notice and still had it half full.

Pope = John (angry Opie) Pelphrey II

Some of you. Talk about trying to overcompensate

That's great, but it's hard to lose the opening press conference. Almost every coach says the right things with the slightest bit of help from the PR team.
. You must have missed the Cal introductory pep and presser

You had your fun for a couple of days and now the reality is setting in. Now you see just how excited that fanbase was to see Cal go and in comparison how underwhelming the Cal pep/presser was. Enjoy the UK recruits and transfers. It will soon be more obvious that Arky did UK a solid.
