Impressive. Just imagine had they hired a good coach. Can’t question their passion.

He did well in the presser too. Was an awesome nostalgia hit when all of the former Cats (not just the 1996 team) filed off the bus to introduce him.

Excited that he’s willing to play early season tournaments again like the Maui. And threw out wanting to have a game against St. John’s (with Pitino there).

It was amazing. I hope he can embrace Cals players, would be great to see them come back and visit. I loved the nostalgia.

Let's get Reed and DJ to stay with Ugonna, bring back Thiero, add Perry and keep one other recruit and a couple of BYU/transfers and we will be all right next year.

Why? What with Kentucky basketball can still surprise you?

It’s a sub par hire by y’all’s standards. I didn’t think y’all would show up for a coach that’s 0-2 in the ncaa tournament during his 9 years of being a head coach. Former player or not, he is woefully under qualified and shouldn’t be supported

We'll see. We didn't get hurley or Drew, didn't wait on Donovan, which I wanted to see what he would say, but beyond that, not many more that would excite the fan base. Pope is a UK first guy and that gets the fans on board.

He has shown that he's a good coach, we will see how his recruiting goes, but I think he will be fine. He had minimal resources and got to a 6 seed, and beat Kansas and Baylor. Time will tell.

He has shown he isn’t a bad coach. Not a good coach

You are splitting hairs.

He's 110-52 at BYU.

That's great, but it's hard to lose the opening press conference. Almost every coach says the right things with the slightest bit of help from the PR team.

For a press conference? On the Lord’s day?!! That’s absurd

I don’t see anyone declaring he’ll win an NC in year one.

But he gets the fanbase and the job. That’s a good first step.

From what I saw in the press conference, it definitely seemed like he was a little too over-the-top with his excitement. I would’ve felt a little better if he briefly explained his blueprint for how he would go about coaching and recruiting. It seems like he was just shocked to be there and didn’t know what to say at times.

I work in Lexington, and I’m from the same hometown as Reed. My mom taught him in elementary school , said he had a basketball with him wherever he went.

The city and state are excited for how this team will do post Calipari era. The one and done NBA stepping stone and kneeling for the anthem steered alotta people away.

They now are jumping back on the Pope Hope train and the local kids like Reed, and Travis Perry and Trent Noah (if he can flip him from South Carolina) will definitely go a long way in helping to restore BBN back to it’s glory days.

The fact that Pope and Reed’s dad were roommates at UK and on the ‘96 Championship team also helps UK’s chances of the pride of Laurel County returning, especially after his disappointing performance in the 1st round of the Tournament.

Is this real? They really packed out the place to introduce the new coach?

Yikes talk about cult like behavior
