Reality is whatever anyone wants it to be. There's no requirement for it to have any basis in truth, reason or facts.

It's the age we live in. I don't see it changing anytime soon.

We’ve won our last meetings against UGA, Bama, and Auburn so don’t act like UCF can’t hang with SEC teams

You can't. Not in a week-to-week schedule. Play an SEC schedule, win HALF those games, then maybe you can talk.

You guys are Boise-East. A talented mid-level team that can get up for one huge game at the end of the year versus a big boy program.

Congrats on the win, but get a grip man. Seriously...

They should claim it, why not and who cares. People will remember the winner of UGA and Bama as real national champions. UCF definitely deserved the victory over AU but when you hear a Vegas insider say their scouts had AU winning 10 out 10 against UCF with the average margin of victory being 29 points then you know AU didn't show any intrest in the game. Even some AU insiders had Auburn being down by multiple scores in the first half just minutes before kick off. That stuff doesnt come out unless their are major issues.

I have news for you, the SEC isn’t what it was 5-10 years ago, UCF can absolutely hang with the majority of SEC programs. Can we beat Bama every year? Lol no way but we absolutely can compete with all you bottom feeders. Don’t act like Mizzou is a “Big Boy” program, y’all won the East what twice? Then proceeded to get embarrassed on National Television by Bama and Auburn.

Congratulations UCF. You should have been involved in a 6 team playoff. I think UCF proved they belong by beating Auburn.

So, enjoy your championship. I hear you’re having a parade Saturday. Have a great time.

If Bama wins Monday, I have no problem sharing the trophy with you. It looks like gold but it’s really cheap tin. Bring a really good hack saw and we’ll try cutting it in half.

Yeah, beating a 6-7 UGA powerhouse really legitimizes your claim to the NC.

It has nothing to do with NC claims, I’m talking about people claiming that any SEC team would have no problem waxing UCF. I’ll let you in on a little secret too, our NC claim is more about blowing up the idea that a 4 team playoff is reasonable than it is about calling ourselves “champions”

I have no problem with UCF claiming a title and doing all this. Have at it.

This is the part where you start sounding stupid.

Just saying "We went undefeated and beat the team who beat both National Title game participants" would be enough to give yourself a trophy and have some people pat you on the back.

This, though, this is laughable.

quote:

“Our wins in conference should matter a lot more,” White said. “I don’t think they gave us enough credit for beating a really good Memphis team twice. UCLA found out Memphis is pretty good. I don’t think they gave us enough credit for beating a really good South Florida team. We beat Navy at Navy. Navy had won 17 straight home games — the nation’s longest home winning streak. Those are hard games. If you’re in the Pac-12, you get credit for your in-conference games, but we don’t seem to be getting the same credit. That needs to change.”

"UCLA found out Memphis is pretty Good". LOL, UCLA went 6-7. Sounds good, can we now tout all our wins over 6-7 win P5 teams? No? Then shutup. Memphis also lost at home to a 5-loss Iowa State team in their bowl game.

"A really good South Florida team". South Florida, whose biggest win was against 6-7 Texas Tech by 4

"Navy had won 17 straight home games — the nation’s longest home winning streak." Navy went 7-6 and 4-4 in the AAC.

You don't get to claim to be the best of the big boys and then use wins over 7-6 teams "because they are Power 5 teams" as proof that you are pretty good. You are asking to be seated at the big table, and nobody at the big table gets credit for wins over teams that barely make bowl games.

AAC wins should not "matter more". UCF had an awesome season........their conference still stinks compared to the conferences they want to be included with.

- 7-5 SMU lost by 41 to 6-6 Louisiana Tech
- 6-6 Temple beat 8-4 FIU by 25
- 9-2 South Florida beat 6-6 Texas Tech by 4
- 7-4 Houston lost to 9-4 Fresno State by 6
- 6-6 Navy beat 6-6 Virginia by 42
- 10-2 Memphis lost to 7-5 Iowa State by 1
- 12-0 UCF beat 10-3 Auburn by 7

Don't give me this intellectually dishonest nonsense. Either brag about beating "a P5 team" or choose to present yourself as a P5 team. If you do the latter you don't get to brag about your wins being good because those teams beat 6-7 UCLA, 7-6 Navy or 7-6 Texas Tech. You either ask for the privileges of a "Big Boy Team" and forfeit the right to get excited about beating just any P5 team, or you stay as a fun Group of 6 team and still talk about beating UCLA or Texas Tech like it is impressive. You can't have both.

Way to drop this and then go on to use a quote that I never said from an article I never linked, that’s busch league posting.

The title claim isn’t so much about “hey we’re hands down the best team in the country” as it is “we went undefeated, won our conference, and just wanted a spot to prove that we are one of the best. Since we didn’t get that because of a 4 team playoff system that clearly doesn’t work we are going to blow the whole thing up”.

Guess what, the plain worked because more people than ever before are talking about how clearly broken the current system is. There is more talk about an expanded playoff and I don’t see how more teams having a shot at winning it all would be worse than what we have now.

By "you" I didn't mean "you poster Pearly Baker".......I meant "you UCF AD Danny White" who is the face of this whole thing.

I get that - and like I said to start my post, I have no problem with UCF doing that. I've long been a proponent of a system (probably 6/8) that clearly lays out a situation where a Group of 5 team like UCF this year, Boise in years past, etc can get into a playoff. It can't be a wide open every year thing because some years there is not a team with any legitimate claim. However, an argument certainly could have been made for UCF in a 6/8 team format this season and I think they totally deserve that opportunity. Top 8 team, 1 or 2 P5 wins, undefeated, Top 10 in some sort of "how good are you" metric (S&P+, ESPN FPI, whatever).

I do think that as a Group of 5......if you want to be given a legitimate look you need all or 3/4 of your OOC games to be P5 teams.......even if that means they are all road games. The P5 folks sometimes go overboard with the "IT'S A GRIND" thing, but I think at the very least you have to put a few games on tape out there to show "Hey, look, we played Kansas State and beat them by 14 on the road. We also went to Kentucky and beat them by 17 and we beat Arizona at home by 10." You don't have to play Alabama, Ohio State and Texas or anything, but at least be able to say "look we are doing all we can here".

I shouldn’t be surprised that you’re too dense to understand that.

Not really necessary, but I get it coming from thinking I was calling you stupid.

UCF had an awesome season - they should live it up

Fair points, although it is a lot harder than most people realize to schedule P5 opponents as a G5 team that’s pretty good.

To a prosperous year for both of our programs

No doubt - scheduling UCF is a lose lose for a P5. No credit if you win laughter (unfair to the P5 and UCF) if you lose.

At least they were undefeated, even though they didn't play anyone except an exhibition against Auburn. Although they did have two wins over common opponents with Notre Dame (Navy & Temple).
