Ever think we have to have promotions bc the UA BoT forces us play in the ghetto, at Legion Field? The area around LF is a dump now and it's amazing anyone goes to games.

That's the Auburn fan in you talking. The BoT doesn't force UAB to play at LF. UAB signed a contract with the city of Birmingham to play there in exchange for the city purchasing 5,000 tickets at face value for each game.

I'm a UAB alum as well, for the record, and would absolutely LOVE to not have to go to LF to watch them play. But until there is enough fan support to pay for a new stadium, I really don't think that's going to happen.

No they didn't. It was a projection.

Yes they did. They had raised about $15 million and presold 27 of the 31 luxury suites

UAB should play in Hoover

Stop it.

Uab should drop to D1-AA footbaw And join the A-10 hoops.

Most people don't known this, but Bartow was angry about Bama 'cheating' to sign Alphonso 'Buck' Johnson.

He started complaining to everyone about Bama.

He turned in "evidence" to the NCAA.
And he became friends with Pat Dye.

Pat Dye talked Bartow into pumping up UAB Footbaw.

No, it really isn't. The BoT won't allow us to build an OCS when money was raised and suites were presold. The only option UAB has ever had is to play at LF.

A 14 page business plan present to the BoT showed that at worst, the OCS would be neutral revenue but the projections showed a profit (conservative estimates).

The BoT was supposed to discuss and vote on our OCS but pulled it at the last minute. It's obvious they violated the sunshine law and discussed it behind closed doors.

If UAB had that million a year it loses to footbaw back...

Doubled Mens Basketball recruiting budget and dramatic increase in advertising.

It is Bull that Georgetown Hoyas or Nova cats can be in patriot league and D1-A Basketball.

UAB made a mistake, football has not earned support.

I have searched the internet and I found a UAB School of Medicine, Tuscaloosa Campus

As said, it is UAB-SOM,T... Nice...

Official UAB Web-Site

So the web-sites are wrong, Al.com is wrong, the world is wrong... Yes prior to 1945 it may have been in Tuscaloosa... who cares.

The problem with it is that money was not actually raised (there were some non-binding pledges), and that any projections for increased future ticket sales also have to account for an immediate loss of 5,000 tickets per game because the city will no longer support it if it's not at a city venue.

If anything, Mackin should start a true capital campaign and get real dollars flowing in for the construction of new facilities. I'd be happy to contribute.

The UAB OCS is basically the same dumpster fire the UA BoT put us through with Jimbo Fisher. We had raised the money to hire him but were told no. So we ended up with that shitty coach, Calloway.

The UA BoT doesn't want UAB to grow in football, which makes zero sense. We're not after the same recruits and we're not an SEC caliber team.

That's the type of thinking that is causing problems. It isn't a commuter school and has some outstanding bio med research. There is a lot of resentment at the school because UAT gets more funding due to its football program and general state wide support when UAB does a tremendous amount of research.

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of UAB people whining about their resentment of UAT. If anyone should be resentful it's the main campus having IT'S medical school hijacked from it. You guys are whining about support or lack thereof for a frickin football program. Give us our medical school back and you'll probably get everything you desire from the BOT plus you still get to be associated with the medical complex on your campus. Everybody wins in that scenario. You just have to swallow a little pride and admit you hijacked the medical school and give it back. No hard feelings once that happens.

UAB should step down about the med school. It's a combined program and being a d*ck won't make it better.

THANK YOU!!! This is a side of the UAT/UAB rift that UAB, it's cheerleaders, and fellow UAT despisers never bother to acknowledge.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I attended UAB, and walking to class felt no different to when I'd have to walk to serve on jury duty on 8th Ave N.

Again, that's not true. UAB's athletic department had been given a mandate to stop running defecits that had to be covered by the university. It presented a balanced budget (which was approved, btw) that included hiring a coach at a salary of $300k per year. The AD promptly went out and made an offer of over $600k to Fisher. That was just dumb. In the real world you get fired over stuff like that.

That's why the contract offer was not approved. Had there been any real money (actual cash) held by the booster club to cover the shortfall (instead of more phantom pledges without any actual cash), the AD could have got it through.

The finances have to be in place to make this thing work long term. The first place to look is in the stands. We need fan support at all the games. We need a capital campaign for a facility fund. Real butts in the seats and real dollars in reserve is how this gets done.

I grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Georgia Tech. I have always followed UAB since I tend to support stuff from my hometown. Like UAB, Georgia Tech is in the middle of a large city. Georgia Tech has done a better job of keeping a campus feel and look. I wish UAB would close off additional streets to keep some of the outside traffic away. Closing streets, an OCS, and the continued construction of dorms would make a huge difference.

UAB has kept Birmingham alive for about the last 30 years. The city and state owe a lot to them. I'm always shocked at the amount of hatred that Bama fans express towards UAB in the news article comments on AL.com. They go out of their way to post trash talk on articles totally unrelated to anything associated with the Crimson Tide.

I live in Texas, so I'll be cheering for UAB with my boys at the Houston game in a few weeks. Go Blazers!!!

How long has it been since you were down there. The campus is much nicer now than when I was there, and it definitely has more of a campus feel.

I know. I still have to go through there quite a bit though, and it still feels like I'm just driving through town like any other part. Other than the occassional chance to gawk at some young thang in yoga pants.
