Those #'s have been confirmed

Oregon/Iowa beat A&M/Mizzou in the 2:30 time slot because Disney is dumb as hell.

Hell Georgia/Miss St probably would have been more like 4 to 4.5 million with YouTubeTV and they had 2.3

ESPN's promotion of multicast

I always have 4 games on at once

This brings up an interesting question (at least to me) — if you do this, say all day, does the network get credit for those viewership ratings on all four games? Or just the one playing the sound? Or none?

I can see how this could manipulate the numbers significantly in their favor when advertising metrics come out, i.e., if all four get credit, it would presumably artificially increase "eyeballs" for most of those games.

The multiple channels showing the same content can definitely be a huge question mark how ratings are counted.

I think it's for all four. I mean, I have to watch the commercials for all four games, so ESPN is going to want to get paid by advertisers for that

1000%. I'd also be interested to know what percentage of their app users utilize multicast (I imagine it's quite high).

I think people are waking up to being put in the middle of a hostage negotiation every year which coincidentally involves Disney. You can only be in the middle of this scenario so many times without people figuring out Disney is the bad guy.

Disney has been bleeding cash since the pandemic ended and they are going to keep hitting consumers up to pay for their shite management while providing the same or less to us. Sports fans need to take a stand and not flip out if they miss a few games. I can find something else to do for a few weekends and check the score or listen to it on the radio. I get that you would be siding with one corporation over another but Disney is the king of shitty companies. Let them get pummeled by the advertisers that Disney guaranteed a certain number of eyeballs. They don't have the money to outlast youtube.

I find it to be the exact opposite.

There are games with playoff implications being played that would usually never watch much of at all.

Im sure Texas Tech fans and Utah fans are still very interested in a lot of games each weekend.

so little difference between a team in the top 5 vs ranked in 20-25

Disagree, there are ~9 or 10 very good teams and then a pretty big gap. The #20-25’s don’t stand much of a chance, which is reflected in the record of the top 10 vs everyone else

I like the general parity though. Less blowouts makes for more entertaining games, and portal helps keeps hope up.

Instead of needing 3-4 or more years to rebuild a program, it can be done in a single year now. Given LSU is staring at a rebuild right now, that is a godsend.

This exactly…

And let’s be honest … the product has been … well, you know …

Ratings were setting all time viewership records up until two weeks ago.

Viewership traditionally drops as you get later into the season as teams get eliminated from CFP contention.

Not in the SEC. Historically week 2 is the bottom and viewership typically builds from that point on.

This is good news. We need to cut ties with ESPN. They are total garbage. Any other option would be better

There’s been too many games with blurry footage. Lot of reasons to get away from ESPN

This would be the second lowest rated Bama-LSU game on ABC or CBS since 2013.

Let me guess. Their lowest rated game was a year they had already fired their coach?

Hulu is even worse.

I know it is unpopular but they have destroyed traditional match ups and 12 team playoffs make the regular season not as important.

It only makes a couple games less important, in exchange for making many more games important

Alabama losing the iron bowl or OSU losing the game is unlikely to knock them out of the playoffs now.

But Alabama losing to FSU week 1 would have normally been a season ender, and instead every game has been important

For schools ranked in the ~5 to 20 range, every game to close the season is crucial

More and more people are beginning to slowly realize this (especially those of us who are traditionally SEC fans).

We're heading back to the 90's and further back thanks to the way things have changed (unlimited agency by players).

Based on the data this season, this take makes absolutely no sense.

For me, it's just that the skill of play is no longer there.
