True story. Years ago my fiancé at the time went to pharmacy school in Memphis and I drove there to stay for a weekend. This is pre cellphone era so we set up a place to meet. I was to call her when I got there. Well, I chickened out at the first place because there was a gang hanging out there so I drove to a nearby McDonald’s looking for a pay phone so she could meet me there instead. Well, that McDonalds wasn’t gonna work because five minutes before someone was shot there. It ended up taking an hour to finally get somewhere safe to meet her. When we finally got to her apartment I told her to pack a bag because we were gonna spend the weekend in Tunica. I wasn’t spending one damn night in that shithole.

I mean... we've hosted several NCAA regionals in basketball, and things go well. We've hosted the SEC Basketball tournament... granted, it's been a minutes... We could easily host the SEC baseball tournament. And nobody would get killed. Some of you people are ridiculous.

Where the hell did you set up to meet? Raifords?

If she's at UT... pre cellphone... that puts it at lets say... mid 90's. I worked down there at Court and Pauline, right in the heart of UT... it's was as safe as safe could be back then. We'd walk from our office to Baptist when it was there... everywhere... never felt unsafe. Then go downtown and walk wherever at night... from the Orpheum to the Peabody to wherever... it wasn't dangerous back then. And it's getting back to that. Granted, it did take sending in the national guard... but still....

That is a great idea. Play it at the state fairgrounds. No, they don’t have a stadium, but their parking lot is huge. We can just pile up trash to make an outfield wall and use spray paint to mark out a “field”.

I drove through there about a month ago... No thanks.. unless you want to get hookers at 2pm off the side of the road.. and not good ones.
