That extension was signed in September by the way. Furthermore, there is no offset language in the contract. If a team like Bama came along and paid Pruitt $3 million/year to be their DC, Tennessee would still owe Pruitt the full amount of the buyout. Phil Fulmer really has no idea what the hell he is doing.

quote:

Head coach Jeremy Pruitt is squarely on the hot seat — thanks to the Vols’ current five-game losing streak — but Tennessee might not be able to make a change thanks to Pruitt’s extension earlier this year.

UT announced in late September that Pruitt received a two-year extension (through 2025).

The extension included a $400,000 raise (which Pruitt is foregoing this year due to COVID-19).

That’s not the bad part of the extension, though.

According to The Athletic’s Andy Staples, Pruitt’s buyout increased to around $12.6 million because of the extension. Before the extension, the buyout would’ve been about $6.8 million.

None of the buyout would be offset if Pruitt found another job, either.

That means Pruitt is not on a hot seat at all.

What's funny is, who was going to steal him away from ut.

Phil isn’t in charge of the firing/hiring of the next guy.

The agents are arse raping the AD's. Someone needs to call Law and Order SVU because this is just sad. At what point will one of these tools step up and say no ridiculous extension? Ross Bjork, Ray Tanner, Phil Fulmer have all had it rammed up the back door.

This is the modern trend. You'd be surprised by the number of contracts that now have no offset language

When local radio go on the record saying they don’t see him being back if he loses out, then you know the boosters have already made their decision.

All of the decision makers share an interest in paying each other more and more all the time. Big coach contracts support big AD contracts and vice versa. College football, like college itself, is a racket. The racket is debt financed on the backs of young people.

I hate Tennessee but dammit their fans don’t deserve this. What a bunch of incompetent assholes. Starting with not having a a legitimate plan after Fulmer. No reason to keep playing with fire hiring guys that haven’t won shite.

All them folk on rocky top get their corn from a jar.

With that buyout, they're probably gonna have to get their asparagus from a can for awhile, too.

Fulmer got an extension too. And a loyalty bonus, because you know every athletic department in America wants to hire unqualified Tennessee ex-coach Philip Fulmer as their AD.

It wouldn’t shock me if there was kickbacks to Fulmer from Pruitts agents. Things are getting so scummy now and no one is going down for it.
