Madison is a great college town. No problem with that.
Austin definitely.

but seriously no Athens, no Oxford, no Charlottesville, no Chapel Hill (which is where you would much rather live than Durham)?
Iowa City but no Ann Arbor?

Berkeley is more of a college town than "LA" and a better one.

only justification for LA is it's home to 2 of the greatest athletic departments in college sports history and its also the home of the Rose Bowl(the stadium which is generally regarded as the greatest venue for a football game and the grandaddy of all the bowl games).

but no, los angeles is not a "college town" in the traditional use of the term.

List blows.

I have heard some good things about Iowa City and Iowa's campus, though.

Rose Bowl is in Pasadena--not Los Angeles.

Only 2 or 3 of those have been mentioned in song or had a song named after it or in the title.

Baton Rouge has been mentioned in many. 'Callin' Bston Rouge', Me and Bobby McGee, Heart of Rock 'n Roll, among numerous others. The LSU campus and surrounding Tigertown are incredible for tailgating snd sight seeing.
Baton Rouge is also known for the largest Water Park in the south, Hot Air Balloon competitions, and several beautiful golf parks and municipal parks.

However, I have been to Columbia, and it is a boring dump stuck in between Kansas City and St. Louis. There is a Nuclear Smokestack and 25 roadside porno shacks in between that stretch of I-70. Columbia as a college town was a joke in the Big 12 (Lawrence/Boulder/Austin all better than Columbia) and now Mizzou doesn't even hold a candle to SEC schools. I've had more fun twiddling my thumbs in Lexington, KY than I ever had in Columbia

I don't know about #2, but Knoxville is a fun place (despite all of that orange).

I'm just as much an LSU homer as the next guy, but c'mon man, Baton Rouge isn't a very good "college town"...We still have the best tailgate in football though
