That's what I'm doing. The CFP has been nothing but a failure as far as competition and parity are concerned.

How has it been a failure as far as competition goes?

2014- first year the 4 seed wins it all.
2017 - 4 seed beats a 3 seed for the BC.
2019 and 2020 a 3 seed made the championship game both years.

Thats 3 NCs that wouldn’t have even gotten a chance winning it all.

4 out of 7 years a at least team outside the top 2 has played their way into the Nc game

As for parity, this would have been the NCG if there was no playoff

2014 Alabama v Oregon
2015 Alabama v Clemson
2016 Alabama vs Clemson
2017 Clemson vs Oklahoma
2018 Alabama vs Clemson
2019 LSU vs Ohio State
2020 Alabama vs Clemson

Alabama gets 5 appearances
Clemson gets 5 appearances
LSU 1
Oklahoma 1
Ohio State 1
Oregon 1

Vs reality which Was

Alabama 5
Clemson 4
Oregon 1
Ohio state 2
Georgia 1
LSU 1

How is that any better or worse for parity?

The BCS would have had Alabama vs Clemson 4 out of the past 7 years.

Alabama and Clemson both being really good has hurt parity more than the CFP.

So why is the main point of the thread criticizing the people who want to expand the playoffs and not the current form. It comes off as you are ok or at least content with four teams.

You can keep the first one virtually the same by adding byes and I would argue there are ways to create more parity by making more teams feel like they are involved.

16 is too many though imo

At no point in the history of the universe ever, has a team ranked 16th in the country been good enough to be in contention for a national championship.

Actually history is dotted with people saying stupid stuff like this. Your one saving grace is that it will be 10 years down the road and no one will remember how short-sighted you were.

All of you that are bashing 16 team playoffs really need to go watch and study some FCS tournaments. Has a 16 team won the thing? No. Has a 16 team knocked off a Number one team and that win help raise their program to be heights never seen? Yes.

You are equating the FCS to the FBS. The two divisions couldn't be more different. For one...the talent gap between #1 and #16 in the FBS is far more than in the FCS. It's like comparing the Strait of Gibraltar with the Mediterranean Sea at its widest point.

You are assuming everything plays out the same way if the CFP never exists. I would argue the CFP has led us to where we are today. If you expand it again, it'll get even worse.

That would have been a blast!

16 teams with no opt outs. The chance for some wild games. Yes, some blowouts. Also, some great games.

It’s an overall better postseason than the “opt out” shite show of today.

True
It creates the need to eliminate conference championships if we go to 16.

College football doesn't have the parity of college basketball and never will.

You want to explain why that's a stupid statement? Better yet, can you go through the final rankings of the last (fill in the blank number) of years and list all the teams that finished ranked #16 that were national title caliber?

Thanks.

That wasn't the point

You said the only people that want to watch that are "the fans of perennial bottom feeders and would-be Cinderellas" that isn't the case at all.

When you see something like UMBC over Virginia, it wasn't just the bottom feeders and Cinderellas that were enjoying it. It was virtually everyone except Virginia fans.

I'd argue it's the football equivalent.

Of course that was the point.

People tune in to watch UMBC play Virginia because there's an outside shot of it being competitive. Nobody outside of the Southeast wants to watch Alabama bench their starters in the 3rd quarter vs. 3-loss Northwestern.
