For the first few weeks, the model heavily depends on past coach ratings, players ratings, and recruiting rankings. Around week 5-6 the model is based purely on results in the season. Model really likes Texas right now.

Tx St outrushed them and Texas had more trouble running the ball than the stats say. They got 45 yards on the first play with an explosive. After that, they got barely over 3 yds/carry. We'll see what they do against the OSU front 7 to get their run game going, but I have my doubts that Texas can be physical on the line on either side of the ball.
Muschamp might be the defensive version of bringing back Chad Morris at Clemson.

Texas vs OSU
Oklahoma vs Michigan
Muzzou vs Kansas

Are decent games.

Yep, I thought Texas looked very average. That said, Ohio St. is rarely impressive in early season, and last year their O was very mediocre in this game. So, should be close.

I'd generally agree, however Texas did run for 166 yards last year against a much better Ohio State front 7 with a much worse OL/RB duo

On the flip side, Ohio State would have been shut out if not for a DPI on 3rd down on 1 drive and busted coverage on another

The model does know that teams tend to underperform in Week 1. But again, the model is mostly hanging its hat on coaching staff and roster this early in the season rather than one game. The model gets more accurate, and more confident, as the season progresses (for obvious reasons).

player ratings:
per game production (yards, TDs, defense stats, etc) and considers opponent

coach ratings:
dominance - their performance against the spread
resume - quality wins, bad losses, etc.
record - all time win percentage

that's very summarized.

You're right. There is no way Golding holds Charlotte to only 20 points

That's pretty cool. Do you have historic data/prediction comparisons?
