more deserving teams nationwide ?

Lets say its LSU, Clemson, Ohio St, and Baylor that make it. What team "nation wide" is better and deserves to be in? And give me a team that hasn't already played and lost to one of the 4 already listed.

They’re getting in in this scenario. They’re undefeated Big 12 Champion.

It would be GOOD FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Disagree

You are drawing in interest from all of the country when you have a system set up that puts in 1 team from each major division. Your one example is aimed at just the SEC and the southern interest.

The game last Saturday was the most watched college football game of the year.

College football is getting close to becoming southern dominated which is not good for the sports OVERALL popularity.

It is a cycle. I remember when USC was the darling of the college football world. tOSU is HUGE. Just because the cycle is toward SEC does not mean it will STAY there unless it is deserved through effort. I did not want Bama to get worse. I wanted LSU to get better. They did.

I have no desire to see a "conference winner" get in simply by being a "conference winner". We always piss and moan at this time of year about who is getting "left out" and every year we end up seeing the right teams playing for the championship. I have very little problems with the BCS selection and have had NO ISSUES with the 4 CFP teams each year it has been in effect.

This arguing we are doing now is GOOD for the game. In the end, it'll sort itself out and the eventual representatives will be the correct ones.

Completely disagree. Maybe this IS what the bigwigs wanted but the national conversation all year, every year is about "who is getting left out" not about how teams would match up. Sure, its true that each year 1 or 2 teams have a legitimate complaint at being left out, and not 4 teams as would be added in an 8 team playoff, but the problem is the whole point of sports is to settle the question of who is best ON THE FIELD. 4 teams may be better than 2, but we are still relying too much on observers to determine who the best team is.

Clemson could be as good as they were last year, but they might also get housed by LSU or Ohio St in their semifinal game. The truth is we don't really know, and neither does the committee.

In 2014 everyone suspected Florida st wasn't very good but they were the defending national champs and they didn't lose a game. Did they deserve to be in the playoff? yeah sure, but they also werent one of the top 4 teams. any of the other top8 teams would have tore them to shreds. The committee, even with all the freedom they have, can still be wrong.

Another question needs to be answered.
Is Bama fans as smitten with A&M fans as A&M is with them?
Bama doesn’t need to defend their position. Aggies do that for them.

6 team playoff...

Top 2 get bye to Final Four on NYD.

Bottom 4 play week after the conference champ games same day as ARMY-NAVY game at home stadiums of higher seeds.

Alabama gets left out of the playoffs, we'll get a 6 or 8 team playoffs fairly quickly

K so explain this scenario:

LSU
Ohio State
Clemson

All undefeated

Oregon 1 Loss
Alabama 1 Loss
Baylor 0 Losses

Who you putting in?

Baylor with 0 losses would be a conference champion, would have beaten Texas, Oklahoma, and the rest of the BigXII... pretty easy inclusion over 1 Loss Pac12 champion and 1 loss non-division champion Alabama.

Keep it at 4. Anything more is too watered down.

think it’s fine at 4. Sometimes, like this year, there’s a massive drop off after 1 and 2.

Speak for yourself - last year there was clearly a massive drop-off after the top two teams (Bama and Clemson). This year there are multiple teams with legit shots at winning the NC.

There is no need for me to consume this beer with my Rueben sandwich and German potato salad.
It will spice them up and make them more enjoyable though.
Same with expanding to 8 teams.

I don't get why anybody would prefer 6 teams to 8, or even to 4. It would just be silly and convoluted.

I've always said to do a 6 team playoff.

Let the SEC champ and other top champ (Big Ten or ACC usually) get byes. This gives the Big 12 & Pac winners a chance to make the playoff and lessens the never-ending debate on the 2nd SEC team.

Nah, if it’s expanded, it should be 7. Two at large play a wildcard game to make up for the conference championship the other guys had to play. That’s the max it should be expanded, and probably the only expansion I’d be somewhat on board with. This way conference champs aren’t discouraged by their playoff opponent getting a bye before they play.
