Not so sure about that. Contact was actually initiated behind the LOS and not downfield (which would be a foul). With his hands inside the pads, no one gets called for holding on that. Kind of like how blocking a screen pass might work. The Clemson defender just got manhandled back into the other defender.
Offensive pass interference by a Team A player beyond the neutral zone during a legal forward pass play in which a forward pass crosses the neutral zone is contact that interferes with a Team B eligible player. It is the responsibility of the offensive player to avoid the opponents.

Perhaps that whole "all our players are hurt as fvck" thing was an actual, legitimate excuse?
Simple Bama formula. Shut down other team's offense and eventually the Bama offense will score something.
At first I picked Clemson in this game for whatever reason but one thing kept gnawing at me that eventually changed my expectation that Bama would win... aint no freshman QB gonna beat Bama by running the ball.
If UGA is to have a chance Fromm will have to be able to read the defense and throw the ball for first downs.

If fromm gets help from the receivers (holding onto the ball and catching a ball that isn't perfect but hits the hands), then he absolutely can do that.
I worry about Bama jumping underneath routes. Fromm is big on presnap reads. Defenses can disguise him into a poor decision to the outside. Most opponents can't hold onto the ball (dropped INTs) when they get this chance. It could be 6 the other way with Bama's DBs

Bmy,
That is referring to engaging the block downfield, NOT a block engaged at the LOS. It’s the difference in a foul or not here.

UGA would get called for a pick play (contact with 2 defenders)

you don't get to stay on your block 4-5 yards downfield (with the ball in the air) as an eligible receiver if the ball crosses the LOS

Are you using injuries as an excuse for losing to auburn? Be careful, you're starting to sound like auburn.

At least now you'll stop crying about Greg Robinson 4 years ago

Georgia's oline is no better than Clemson's. Georgia's dline is no where near as good as clemsons. Alabama won in the trenches on both sides. If we play the same way next week we will win

Greg Robinson had a pick play? Damn, must have missed that one.
Also - that whole Clemson beating our arse thing............ouch. Your self anointed reputation as perfect prognosticator really took a hit there. Perhaps it was all some sort of set up for a trump card pick in the national title game.

Small fix
Other than Deshaun and the catches those 3 made (because of Deshaun), this game was basically exactly the same as the last one. We pretty much owned the trenches against Clemson until our defense totally wore out the last time (because of Deshaun) and we chased Deshaun around as much as we did Bryant. Deshaun just flipped us the bird half the time then threw a dart 30 yards downfield to Mike Williams.

They talked about this on the ESPN coaches feed of the game. All agreed it was legal noting that the TE or RB can legally block at the LOS and push downfield as on that play. The context you're talking about is a 2nd level block that begins downfield. That would be a foul.

then they were wrong. the rules are crystal clear.
ARTICLE 8.
a. During a down in which a legal forward pass crosses the neutral zone, illegal contact by Team A and Team B players is prohibited from the time the ball is snapped until it is touched by any player or an
official (A.R. 7-3-8-II).
b. Offensive pass interference by a Team A player beyond the neutral zone during a legal forward pass play in which a forward pass crosses the neutral zone is contact that interferes with a Team B eligible player. It is the responsibility of the offensive player to avoid the opponents. It is not offensive pass interference (A.R. 7-3-8-IV, V, X, XV and XVI) (when):
1. When, after the snap, a Team A ineligible player immediately charges and contacts an opponent at a point not more than one yard beyond the neutral zone and maintains the contact for no more than three yards beyond the neutral zone
2. When two or more eligible players are making a simultaneous and bona fide attempt to reach, catch or bat the pass. Eligible players of either team have equal rights to the ball
3. When the pass is in flight and two or more eligible players are in the area where they might receive or intercept the pass and an offensive player in that area impedes an opponent, and the pass is not catchable
#1 applies to offensive ineligible players only. it wouldn't apply in this situation anyways because the block extended further than 3 yards down field. #3 applies only when the pass is not catchable.. and given that it was obviously catchable, and an offensive player in the area impeded an opponent.. clearly PI

Omg, yes, it was an illegal pick play and no one cares.
No one cares because it wasn't the difference in the game. But, more so, no one cares because it was awesome.
It was a year's worth of frustration repaid in one glorious ~600 lb karmic Bama-style installment of Clemson's NC winning illegal pick.
Pure Saban retribution. Refs would have feared for their lives (or at least their shrubs, lawns, and trees lives) to have called it, when it so perfectly evened the scales.
